Our fridge is a Dometic RM something or other. We've never bothered to sort the fridge out as it works fine on 12volt/mains. But today we decided to look. The previous owner had never used it on gas so didn't know when it failed to work.
It ignites but even after 2 mins of holding the temperature dial in after ignition, the pilot goes out. It will ignite straight away again but as soon as you release the push dial, out it goes. Any ideas before we book someone to take a look.
On the other 2 power sources it has no issues and chills/freezes as it should.

The thermocouple that sits in the flame is either misaligned or has failed

You're always on the ball here 👍👍so that sounds like it needs a professional rather than us?

Is there a rotary switch to select mains, 12v or gas?
If there is I think when switching away from gas the rotary switch interrupts the signal from thermocouple to gas valve to shutgas off.
If those contacts are iffy, that's a tech phrase, then on switch back to gas the contacts for the thermocouple may not make.
It was a long time ago I played with our fridge but I think that's what happened, cleaned contacts and all good.

Well I'd call it a push in dial to select the power source but I guess the.propper term may be rotary switch.

It's not a difficult job for Col. Take fridge bottom vent off outside and check the brass thermocouple is in the flame for the pilot light first

I can take a look during the week next week

Plenty available online if you know the model. Generally just a small spanner and screwdriver job.

Get out there and enjoy it

my. thinking is any generic thermocouple should. Do priced at about £5. Opposed to
£50 odd .

take the old one to any plumbers merchants. They will find the one you want…..

You don't have your van model in you details but most now don't have a thermo couple mine is 2007 and no thermo
Moden fridges use a flame rectification system
First check that it's lighting
Then check the probe is in the flame
Most common failure is the jet is blocked or the burner is full of debris
Another common cause is the wires from the probe plug in to an electrical box and can corrode enough to stop the current pop them out and clean inside and the plug
You can tell which system you have by looking at the burner if the flame detection probe is brass its a thermo couple if its ceramic its rectification
