Fridge won’t stay in electric!

Hi All - appreciate any help….we have just arrived onsite and on ehu, electric is working fine in the MH, but the fridge/freezer keeps alarming on electric and will only operate on gas. Anybody have any ideas what’s wrong?

We Do have the outside vent covers on, but can’t think that has anything to do with it. We had the fridge on all day yesterday at home on ehu without any issues.

Of the electric element is corroded it may work until it changes temperature a little and then trips out.

Strangely it was working while we were out for a couple of hours this afternoon and then when we returned and I opened the fridge door the fridge alarm when off again and the plug icon flashing…..

It's the site voltage that causing it,low voltage ,too many folks with heaters on , if you check with a multimeter you will find its down to 210v ish to make the fridge trip out. Best to keep the fridge on gas as you could possible damage your fridge pcb board by spiking if the voltage suddenly comes back up.

Other thing that happens with 8000 series fridges if the mains voltage is low it tries to light on gas but can't as it has detected mains so kept the gas solenoid closed.

That seems to make sense…..so further use of the van (we only arrived earlier today)….we have the Alde heating/hot water on, both low setting with gas on to give it a boost. IF we put the kettle on (low wattage kettle) on or switch the 600w small oil radiator on it trips the Alde water heating. Spoke to the warden and he thinks it’s the EHU as its It showing hardly any usage on his meter…..

Site hook up - low voltage - ours use to do it on certain sites - and at times when everyone had heaters/kettles on.

Morning all! Further to our lack of electric on our pitch, we’ve used a fair whack of gas overnight and the main bottle had been used previously, so looks about 50% used. Ive never had to change the bottles over, so seems like it’s a good idea to know! from the picture of our set up, please could anybody tell me where the switchover valve etc. is? I have both bottles opened by turning the small brass screw on each bottle.

From your picture it looks like you don’t have a switch over valve. Both your bottles look to be permanently connected and available for gas if the gas tap valve on each bottle is open. If, as you say, both are open then both bottles will empty at the same time, and should have a similar amount of gas remaining in them. The alternative way to use this setup is to only open a single bottle at a time, and when that single bottle runs out, open the valve on the second. You then know you are at less than 50% of your supply

Your picture shows that the gas bottles don’t have matching gas levels, so perhaps you don’t have both bottles open.

Thanks Landy Andy - I agree with your comments, but I’ve just checked again and both bottles are opened. Do you think it would auto changeover?

As Andy says if both bottles are open they will both empty at the same rate. You need to close one bottle or you won't have any reserve.

No I don’t think it will auto change over as the regulator would be different from what you’ve got in your picture.

I suppose it is possible that the gas levels may not be 100% matching with your setup, but can’t see them being so different if both bottles open always at the same time. I would think that the gauges may not be telling you the truth is more likely, if always both bottles used.

I’m assuming that the van / bottles were filled by you, and both full at the start.

Gaslow guages aren't incredibly accurate. Mine hit empty and stayed there for ages. I would try and fill the first up once you are on to the second.

Just as a note your fridge won't use that much gas, possibly half a litre max per day. Most will be used on your heating.without your heating and just using fridge and gas hobs you should only be using litre a day ,as a guide. Best to use a hob kettle for heating water for washing etc rather than the boiler on gas.but even a low wattage kettle if on ehu. If the site power is low you have to alternate between what you want. Hot water, kettle, heating etc but all separately on/ off.

Yep, thanks, I’ve switched the one bottle we were using off and the other full bottle kicked in, so all good.
