I'm a newbie
Hi, over the last 3-4 years we have explored both the Dordogne and the Ardeche, loving the rugged beauty of Sarlat and Vallon and surrounding villages etc.

We have thought that we should widen our horizons and explore other regions in the south. We love the heat and therefore tend to prefer a little south of Paris. Last year we had a few days in the high alps, which again was beautiful, although as We have our dog with us we did find it a lot less dog friendly than other places. ( I assume this is due to national parc’s etc).

We also visited Annecy last year, so hope this gives you a flavour of what we are looking for.

Thanks in advance

Try Lake Settons , loads of ACSI sites but surprisingly for a beautiful place never gets busy. Also the lakes south of Bordeaux.

We've been travelling through the Ardeche, Drome and Provence regions, truly beautiful and lots of medieval villages with Aires to visit.

Currently in one such location about 15 miles south of Millau.

We explored the Corbières region in the south west looking at Cathar castles a couple of years ago. Not a well known area. Challenging roads in places!

Years ago we bought a Beaux Villages de France map and have had some wonderful holidays using them to wander around many regions of France.
Also we had a magical Christmas one year doing the Alsace Christmas markets and that region is also stunning (and very hot) in summer.

Enjoy ?

Thanks, Rod

Take a gander at the photo of the day thread since about 13th or 14th may.
We stayed in provence for a month and the photos might give you some ideas.
Also photos on the photo of the outside from the inside.
