I think you are looking for an answer which is already there .Just heard back from the French consulate - pasted below. From what I can see they will let us in if we met the criteria specified on the link so still no real news...

The decision to allow people to travel or not is made by the Border Police on the day of travel – the French Consulate General London has therefore no say in the matter.
