Please can someone tell me the dimensions of the propane gas bottles sold in the supermarkets
in France with the male thread? We need the dimensions to check on the fitment. How high how wide etc ?
Regards Vana

Depends what size. I've got a small 5kg bottle here (Wells) you could check with, you could have the bottle to be sure. I've also got a male/female adapter, for a small fee. They are the same connectors for most sizes any way.

Intermarche sell 9kg propane or 10kg butane which are the same diameter as Spanish bottles, around 31cm, and around 40/5cm high. The 13kg bottles are considerably bigger, the 'Le cube' bottles are smaller but have a clip on connector.

The Intermarche bottles were around €21 last time I bought one with onlyba euro deposit, sorry can't be more accurate, not in France at the moment.

13Kg are much the same size a calor. The Blue is French Butane
You can also see the French type regulator connection

Intermarché Energaz 9kg propane are 57cm high, 30cm diameter.

13kg propane cylinders are typically 56-60cm high and 30-31cm in diameter. There's a selection and comparison of propane bottles available in France here.

I am sure that the information given for the Intermarche 9kg bottles given on that website is wrong.

The 13kg bottles are 55-57cm high, my Intermarche bottles are significantly less in height.

I think you're probably right - the picture shows them as more squat than the 13kg bottles - probably nearer 45cm high

All dimensions information is available on the supermarket or makers websites, assuming they are correct, of course. The clip on connectors are very handy, each supermarket or garage will have a selection of bottle sizes, and if you make sure you have the right adapters for the make of bottles you decide on, you'd be OK to choose a suitable size when you get there. It's really not difficult, I did it for over 10 years with various vans.I've now got an underfloor refillable tank, due to having a very small locker in my present AT Tribute. As I said earlier, if you fancy a trip out to Wells, you're most welcome.

Thanks to all your replies, we ran out whilst in France a few years ago. Thanks Dorwyn I
have purchased the brass adaptor that takes us from the male to uk pol connection ,it is a
great offer on the bottle, if no takers, we were in Somerset now in Bournemouth. also thank all
of you that responded, the size was needed to fit it in the locker, thanks Stealaway it seems
to answer the Question I was after. It could be on the cards for us as we do visit Taunton to see our
Daughter from time to time so thanks Dorwyn.
Regards to all Vana

i dont know how much deposit you have to put on a gas cylinder, but they can often be found at the local french 'tip' - just ask and you usually get one for free, take it to the supermarket and exchange it for a full bottle.
