Going to France in our diesel 1995 auto sleeper. Starting in Calais heading for the loire valley planning to keep off motorways & toll roads where possible just a bit concerned about the clean air zones have looked on the internet but can't find a simple list of zones.
Finding all online info very complicated
All I want is a simple list of zones to avoid.
Have no plans to go into towns or cities with the restrictions so do I still need a crit air sticker.

For the cost of one it’s best to get one they are only about €5 and you may find yourself in a situation where you have to go into a zone😊👍

My understanding is due to the age of my vehicle I can't enter a french clean air zone without getting a fine.
Same as the London LEZ.

If you have a smart phone look for and download the 'Green Zones' app, don't pay any money.

You can view all the LEZ maps for free.

Brilliant just what I wanted .
Many thanks

The French zones are not like the LEZ which s permanent, as only a few(4-5?) French ones are permanent. The rest are only active when promulgated so by the local authority when pollution reaches certain levels, which has rarely happened.

However, even in non-active zones it is the requirement to display a Crit'Air sticker.

So, it is better to get a sticker and then you only have to steer clear of the Permanent zones, which will be listed in the links above.

Just to let you know that the Rouen LEZ provides 24 days free passage annually for any vehicle. You just need to apply on line. Handy for travelling to the west of France from Calais.

FYI The newer LEZs introduced from 1/1/25 which operate 24/7 provide a total ban on vehicles which were built prior to 1997, so you will need to keep an eye out for those, Caen and Le Havre are recent examples. I believe there is an obligation for all French cities of a population over 150k to have similar LEZs this year.

I have a similar issue so not keen to volunteer my details.

Tbc I don't set out to break any laws but Im happy to do as many of the locals do for this one.

I agree. Being a Euro 4 (orange sticker) I am happy to stay away from LEZ zones but don't want to make myself an easy target for ANPR cameras if a diversion or whatever re-routes me meaning the French authorities have my contact details.

A passing thought. Given that the Crit'Air sticker lasts for the lifetime of the vehicle would that mean that an unscrupulous future owner of my van could drive through zones willy nilly leaving me picking up the fine? How does that side of things work?

Our sticker has the vehicle Reg no. on it, so unless your vehicle is still registered in your name you should be OK.

I’m assuming you’ll fill out the “change of owner” section on the V5 when you sell the vehicle. It’s dated so any fine or traffic contravention will be liable to the new owners after that date.

Cheers!

Many thanks for all replys really appreciate your help so much information that I couldn't find on the internet.
We are going to give France a miss due to the restrictions on a vehicle of ours age.

Don't give France a miss. The emission zones are easily by passed.
The route down to the Loire only requires a route around Rouen being planned ahead.

Sorry to contradict but you can get an exemption for Rouen for any vehicle. See my earlier post on this thread.
