Excuse my naivety but what are the opportunities for free camping Aires as per France in Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Germany??

Can only speak for the ones in Spain and there fine. Only ever been to one that had no room

A slowly disappearing resource I think, there are still lots of free aires in France but aires in popular locations are gradually being taken over and run by Camping car parks, who typically charge 8-15€ PN. In fairness they bring them up to date with facilities that actually work, you can also book a spot in advance which is helpful when traveling. In other countries like Germany and Spain free aires (Stellplatz in Germany) are usually found in quieter areas away from beaches and rivers.

We have just come back from 3 weeks touring France.
Overnighted at 18 different aires and only had to pay for two of them, 5 euros at one and 8 euros at the other.
