Pulled up to a nice, free service point today in France operated by the local council. It had:
  • Water tap for refilling
  • Gray water drain under the parking spot
  • A flat sink at waist height with another tap above it
  • Public toilet next to it with normal toilet, urinal, sink
We hunted around but couldn't find anywhere for the black waste. What is the usual protocol here, pour it neatly down the public toilet?

Also any ideas what the flat sink and tap is designed for?

Unusual not to have a black drain point, sometimes it’s a lift up drain (with a dodgy bit of wire etc) How big was the drain hole on the “sink”?

Look for a small manhole type cover somewhere nearby - often these are the black waste. Don't pour it down the loo it's just not British

Yes sometimes not in the most obvious places, and a drain cover somewhere with a short wire attached is a good clue.

Hmm there was a manhole cover under the "sink" but I couldn't figure out how to lift it up. Maybe there was a knack to it.

The sink drain hole was normal size for a hand basin and drained quite slowly when I rinsed our water carrier in it, so definitely wouldn't work for solids!
