Now then :)

I've been using forums in all sorts of shapes and sizes since the dawn of the Internet, I've even run a few of my own at various points over the last +20 years (yes, the Internet has been around that long, scary thought eh??)

I'm new to motorhoming (11 months in so far) and even newer to this forum (only a month or two!) and what I'm constantly amazed by on this forum, is the sheer speed of it!!

For a forum with so many (seemingly-permanent!) concurrent users and nearly TWO MILLION posts, it is incredibly fast!!

@Jim It's a credit to you sir (y)

I've worked in IT for more years than I can remember and my curiosity has gotten the better of me - Can I ask what kind of infrastructure is powering it?

I don't think it's the infrastructure, it's the connection. MHF is a relatively small database and a good PC could run it.

An IBM 360/40, DL1 database & 3705 comms controller I guess:LOL:

150mb Virgin cable is powering my end, keep up Jim ! :LOL:

The man has several kids - as they've grown, they've been able to pedal faster.

Simple really !

Oh yes, those were the days, the first mainframe I worked on an IBM 360!
I am not sure that we had such a sophisticated thing as a database though, just serial files on tape or punch cards.

I help out by keeping the number of stupid posts down. (y)

Is it just me or has everything started going slow since this thread was started, i keep getting circle of slowness then Bad Gateway message.
