Does anyone have any experience of what to do if the new colourised screen control panel won't switch on?

Does anyone have any experience of what to do if the new colourised screen control panel won't switch on?
Unfortunately I do have a lot of experience of this problem.

Within 1 week of taking delivery of my Ford Nugget with the new touch screen control panel it wouldn’t come out of standby. I had to shut the power off,,and then it would reset and work as it should for varying periods of time before it happened again.

I reported this to the dealership who’s representative tried his best to get an answer from Westfalia,,,,eventually Westfalia answered and said that they were aware of a software issue and that new updated software was being worked on.

After a long time the dealership said that they’d received the software and that I could book my Ford Nugget in to have the software update,,,,
the control panel is specifically designed to unclip and then a data card can be inserted loaded with relevant software,,,,
Before I took it there I was asked what version of software was existing and the dealership talked me through how to find that out ,, then it was possible to see the new version identification and to confirm that the upgrade taken place.

The upgrade was carried out and the new software was loaded into my control panel,,,
however it still didn’t resolve the problem,,my control panel still ‘froze’,,
sometimes it took up to 4 days to do this,,,other times a couple of days,,it is very random

I went back to the dealership and fortunately now had a really helpful and professional person/customer service representative looking into this for me,,,,,
even so Ford and Westfalia continued to be very reluctant to reply or to do anything about this ongoing issue

Eventually following masses of emails which I had insisted on being the only way contact was made because I was uneasy about Ford and Westfalia just ignoring the problem,,,and virtually suggesting I was the only person experiencing this issue,,despite them producing new software to resolve the same problem,,they eventually,,,from Germany sent a new control panel,,,,
I also received what I call ‘compensation’ from Ford but it wasn’t called ‘compensation’ it amounted to about £1000,,,and included two free services and a cash payment.

The new control was fitted and within a week the same issue showed up,,,
And I’m still in the same position today,,,with the dealership getting frustrated still trying to get a response from Ford and Westfalia

I wrote to two well known YouTube Ford Nugget bloggers,,one of whom has the new control panel and had commented how their control panel wouldn’t charge to 100% which was one of the issues I’d had and that had been resolved with the update and again with the new control panel,,,I’d hoped they’d take it up and use their platform to inform Ford Nugget oweners,,,because the main issue of not switching on after it has frozen and will not come out of standby by pressing any of the 3 icons on the right hand side of the panel,,,,still remains

My fear is that owners of Ford Nuggets with the same touch screen control panel could well NOT even be aware that they have this issue,,simply because they may only use their control panels for 4 days max so it won’t show up,,,
and Ford and Westfalia’s inaction will allow the clock to keep running down and owners warranties will expire

My hope is that Ford Nugget owners with the new control panel will check their panels over a longer period by leaving them powered up and then not touching them for as long as possible,,,,and then if they find they do have the same issue which I suspect they do,,,,,they’ll look online and find others have it too,,,and then they'll be able to inform their dealerships who in turn will force Ford and Westfalia to admit this problem exists and to fix it

More worryingly I now see that the ‘new touch screen control panel’ that you and I have that was introduced in 2022 is now being replaced,,,after just a year,,,,it begs the question,,Why???

My dealership continues to keep on asking Ford UK for a solution but it’s very frustrating and nothing has been said so far that gives me any hope,,,,,its not a good situation,,,
I hope this information is of use and help to you,,,
and to I’m sure all other Ford Nugget owners with the,,what was just for 1 year,,,the all singing and dancing,, ‘new touch screen control panel’,,,,,now being replaced at least in Europe for the 2024 Ford Nugget,,,

FORD NUGGET CONTROL PANEL PROBLEM UPDATE;

Update regarding your problem and,,,ALSO regarding what seems is a fairly common problem/fault with the fridge.

1) SOFTWARE FAULT;
So a third version of updated software is now available from Westfalia that has already been installed in some Ford Nuggets in Germany within the last month, it is;
Version V020300

My dealership has now received this software from Westfalia, they are having difficulty downloading it onto the an SD Memory Card though which I’ve read seems to be a common problem experienced by many Ford dealerships in Germany.

So unfortunately it still seems Ford dealerships are still not receiving proper and appropriate support from Ford Motor Company who could simply send out pre-loaded (with this latest software) SD memory cards,,,,,
or even why won’t Ford actually just tell, or demand that Westfalia simply do this rather than sitting on their hands waiting to see if their customers, Nugget owners, who will have no choice other than to go back to their dealerships when these problems develop,,,and then experience all the messing about and bother of that especially when then, the dealerships will have to start the very long winded process of figuring it all out,,,next with them having to contact Ford, then next Ford tell them to contact Westfalia,,,or the dealerships contact both,,,and then with the long wait for responses that occurs,,,,,its completely the wrong way round,,,,,Ford and Westfalia should be contacting the Nugget owners,,,apologising and informing them that they need to get this updated software installed,,,and actually at their convenience,,,,,,at their customers convenience,,,,,,,,instead of ignoring the faults, problems and issues that their customers are experiencing.

This attitude is borne out when roughly about 18 months AGO,,,I have an email that I sent to Ford Motor Company in which I suggested that ‘they’, Ford, should contact all Nugget owners,,,so a recall really,, I suggested that maybe Ford should take a proactive good customer service approach,,,and simply inform all Nugget owners that there IS a fault with the Control Panel Software,,,Ford’s reply which I still have, was to say that there weren’t any ‘concerns’ and unbelievably they said this at the same time that Westfalia had actually ALREADY said in another email I have that they were ‘working’ on the first new software update BECAUSE THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM,,,,,
so Ford’s reply was an absolute ‘contradiction’ ,,,,,”there were no common concerns”,,
so using the word ‘contadiction’ in this context is being very generous in direct reference to Ford’s response then,,,
and it seems both Ford and Westfalia are STILL not being proactive, they are still NOT informing owners of the Control Panel fault,,,
nor of the fault with the fridge that some owners are experiencing.

2) FRIDGE FAULT;
I thought that our fridge not working properly would be down to the Control Panel faults and a software update that works properly would fix it,,,however I’ve now found out it is not to do with the software at all and that Westfalia actually now supply a simple fix for this common problem.

So we have only ever turned our fridge to level 1 which is the warmest setting and at the bottom it still freezes,,,,,
So after finding out about this fridge fault on the ‘nuggetforum’,,,,during my long search regarding the faulty software in the Control Panel,,, I also read about a very clever person/ Nugget owner who had produced a fix for the fridge, and he was supplying this fix to other owners on the “nuggetforum”,,,amazing really,,,,and it’s suggested on this forum that Westfalia must also been reading about the fix on the forum and they copied it, and started supplying it to dealerships who contacted them about the problem/fault with the fridge,,,,
unfortunately once again Westfalia and Ford are ignoring these faults by not proactively identifying and then helping their customers to fix these faults,,,they’re not informing their customers and even when their customers have these faults or may want to update their software to fix or even prevent them,,,its not an easy process even for the dealerships.

So for the fridge fault I understand the fix is a short length of wire with a resistor in it that has an appropriate plug on one end and an appropriate socket on the other end,,,so to fit it the wire going to the fridge compressor is unplugged and then this fix/adapter wire plugs into the fridge compressor and the original wire that was unplugged, is plugged back into the other free end of this fix/adapter,,,,,,my dealership has asked Westfalia to send one of these as well to fix the fault with my fridge.

So that’s all I know for now,,,,

I really hope that this information is of use to any Nugget owners who are still unaware of these issues/faults,,,
this is now the third version of software so its real,,,
and it seems that sooner or later all Nuggets with the older software versions may will at some point experience these problems,,,,
so let’s just hope they hear about it soon and especially before their warranty’s run out,,,,,
because as said already,,,,
it doesn’t seem that Ford or Westfalia will be alerting them to these inherent faults that have caused them to update the software to this third version,,,any time soon,,,,

it’s unbelievable really that this is happening,,,I guess it’s going unreported,,,
and that’s how ‘they’ want it to stay,,,,

Good luck

Stumbled across a Ford Nugget RECALL last night so I thought I’d best share it,,,ASAP

“RECALL ACTION: DOMETIC HOB. [12.08.2021]

I’m posting this just in case you or any other Nugget owners (excluding the Big Nugget) haven’t seen this because I only read about it last night.
And considering that within their statement in one sentence regarding this RECALL Westfalia say; “There is thus a risk of serious injury from fire/explosion from gas escaping through leaks.” it is something that should be widely known about.

This RECALL information was for me not that easily found on their website,,,I wasn’t looking for it,,,maybe if a person were specifically looking for it, it’d be easier to become aware of it, and I think it may have been on there since 12.08.2021, which is quite concerning, I just came across it by chance.

A link to the Dometic website is given by Westfalia however in my humble opinion I don‘t think this devolves them from still having a shared responsibility for really proactively ensuring all affected owners become aware of it.

Maybe Westfalia (or Ford) could/should have contacted all affected Nugget owners individually, directly, because Westfalia fitted the gas hobs and Ford sold the vehicles, its very likely they have all the serial numbers etc,,,maybe they have done so and have contacted all affected owners but then WHY post this RECALL notice on their site,,,it’d be unnecessary if they had of contacted all affected owners I would have thought.

As with the Control Panel now on the third update and then the fix for the faulty fridges both not being more proactively and effectively NOT publicised to all Ford Nugget owners,,,yet again, on the face of it this is disappointing to say the least,,,

Here is a link to the Westfalia website with the RECALL information on it:

Hope this helps, even it if one affected owner is informed it’s worth it,,,

It's been across Europe and UK, a lot of convertors have been affected.

I also have similar problems with the fridge - but only discovered this thread when one day after warranty ended. On setting 1, it freezes things. I'm very interested in learning more about the fix (adding a wire with a resistor) but I cannot find where the data comes from. Can anyone help? With some specifics, I could make up the additional wire ... or really challenge the Ford dealership. That said, Westfalia has been awful in its after service (refusal to talk with me direct, everything has to go through the dealer, and then nothing actually happens with other warranty issues).

Can anyone - Ford-Nuggety? - help with a link or copying the value of the resistor and where it must go?

Hello, I’ve just read your question regarding the fridge fault. (Quite a lengthy reply, unfortunately necessary though,,,and it really shouldn’t be)

So, I hope my reply along with my previous two replies to “GreenGirl” will help you to help your dealership understand, that you are their customer suffering inconvenience, through no fault of your own, and that they really need to sort out the easy fixes required to make your Ford Nugget, finally, fully and properly functioning, and ‘FIT FOR PURPOSE’ as a camper van,,,AND at absolutely no charge to you,,,IN FACT quite the reverse of that? considering the inconvenience and distress caused,,, (AND THIS APPLIES TO ANY OTHER FORD NUGGET OWNERS AFFECTED BY THE SAME ISSUES)

As I’ve said in my previous replies to “Greengirl”, in which I deliberately wrote lengthy and hopefully informative replies solely in order to help “Greengirl” and help others as well,,,because in the ‘early days’ whilst struggling with these issues particularly after I had written to two very well known Ford Nugget YouTube Vloggers, I’d written in the hope that they’d use their platforms to help Ford Nugget owners become aware of these issues,,,and they hadn’t done so,,,
I then thought that maybe other Nugget owners would become aware of all of this via this thread on this really great forum,,,so it’s informed you, it’s informed “Greengirl” and hopefully informed others as well

Maybe those two well known Ford Nugget vloggers may now or soon become aware of this thread,,,and after reading about your situation now they will do a YouTube vlog (please) about this,,, in order to help all other Nugget owners,,,I hope so,,,because doing that will make it far easier for all Ford Nugget owners to convince their dealerships to get these faults fixed,,, and that the expiration of the warranty is irrelevant BECAUSE all of the faults mentioned were ‘in-built’ at the Westfalia factory during production, so the Ford Nuggets were sold to their owners with these faults ALREADY EXISTING,,,the faults were there before Ford Nugget owners even took delivery of their new expensive vehicles from their dealership.

For me it was a real frustrating struggle to convince Ford who were as disinterested as Westfalia have been,,, however for you now, I hope that I’ve done the groundwork and the information I’ve provided on this forum in this thread, will be enough for you to get your dealership to do the right thing and fix your faults at no cost to you,,,
and they really should apologise for the inconvenience they’ve caused to you due to the very expensive vehicle you purchased from them ‘not being fit for purpose’,,,for so long,,,
because if the fridge freezes when it shouldn’t do,,,
if the Control Panel doesn’t,,,’Control’,,,
and now possibly some owners Gas Hobs are so dangerous they can’t be used,,,
then without doubt the vehicle specifically sold as a Ford Nugget Camper Van in that condition,, is,,,Not - Fit -For-Purpose,,how can it be in that condition?

So in fact, I didn’t actually write DIRECTLY to Ford however my emails to the dealership were forwarded onto Ford and I was copied in on Ford’s replies which is how I found out that they were almost denying really that these faults existed at production.
Ford said that the software update that Westfalia had already admitted that there was a problem with and were actually working on,,was ”not a common concern,,”,,it was so frustrating,,,,,,of course it was a “common concern” ,,,if Westfalia were already working on new software to fix the problems they were aware of,,,it was DEFINITELY a “common concern” to every single Ford Nugget owner with that Control Panel with the faulty software installed,,,so frustrating,,,

I’d actually suggested to Ford that they were selling vehicles,,, I’d kindly suggested “possibly unknowingly” with a fault, the Control Panel software fault.
I’d said,,,”unknowingly” at least that was until I’d just told them in writing that there was a software production fault,,,
I suggested that there should be a recall,,,and that dealerships and sales would be put in an impossible situation actually selling vehicles to people without telling them that the Control Panel software was faulty,,,because Westfalia had ALREADY actually said in writing that they were aware of the problems with the software and were working on new software to fix it,,,Ford couldn’t have been informed of that,,,except they had been by me,,,and maybe others, I wouldn’t be aware of that,,,because CRUCIALLY that’s exactly where the problem lies, until people, owners share their experiences on forums such as this, ONLY then will they become empowered to get something done to fix these problems,,,rather than constantly getting the runaround.

So without being able to demonstrate that other Nugget owners had the same faults my only option was to trawl the internet searching for any other Nugget owners with the same experience and fortunately I came across the Nuggetforum based in Germany.
I used google to translate from German into English and then I could use those examples and experiences from the users of that forum to back up what I was saying to the dealership and they could use those experiences to ‘inform’ Ford,,, and then Westfalia had to take some responsibility to fix them,,,UNBELIEVABLE REALLY, WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO, TO GET “CUSTOMER SERVICE”

Now hopefully my experiences and what I have said in my replies to “Greengirl” will assist you in convincing your dealership to get your fridge fixed, in making sure your Control Panel has the latest software update installed (version:V020300) and now them checking via the link for you, that I posted in my previous reply to “Greengirl” that your hob (hopefully) is not subject to a Dometic recall.

So as you have now become aware the fault with your fridge is most definitely NOT a fault that has just mysteriously and suddenly occurred following the expiration of your warranty,
it’s a common fault well known about by Ford and Westfalia that has existed from production,,,
so it existed before your Nugget left the Westfalia factory and therefore it will continue to be covered and to be fixed by Ford,,,
so specifically by the dealership that you purchased your Nugget from,,,
if they refuse even with the information from my experience to assist them to understand fully what they need to do,,,
then you’ll need to go directly to Customer Assistance Ford UK,,,
IMPORTANTLY it’d also be very helpful if you could let ‘us’ all,,,via that thread know the name of your dealership if you don’t get the appropriate help you need because it’s always extremely useful for everyone to be aware of not so helpful dealerships,,,
hopefully though they’ll be really helpful and sort it all out without any fuss.

So your dealership must contact Westfalia or Ford UK, or both and simply request the fix for your fridge that is supplied free of charge from Westfalia and it takes minutes to install (it just ‘plugs’ in). And check you you have the latest software installed and that your gas hob is ok.

The purpose made free fix sent from Westfalia for my Nugget, arrived very quickly and it was fitted in minutes.

Really hope this helps you,,,and that this information is as widely shared as possible so others will not experience the frustrations that “Greengirl”, you, and I have,,,and definitely shouldn’t have done,,,

Happy Christmas, Happy New year and Good luck,,,

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply. I'll certainly follow up with my Ford dealer. I'd hoped you might recall the actual link you mentioned in your earlier reply where you wrote: 'I also read about a very clever person/ Nugget owner who had produced a fix for the fridge, and he was supplying this fix to other owners on the “nuggetforum”' because that would help with my own research and also be something to point the dealer towards as proof. I've failed to find it though.

Best wishes for Christmas also

Good morning, (apologies for misspelling your name yesterday, I’m a bit more awake today)

Here’s the link, I hope, to the nuggetforum which I hope will open on page 48 for you.

If you search backwards from page 48 I guess you’ll find where “RolfB” actually offers the link to others on the forum, you’ll need to join the forum to contact RolfB which I haven’t but I have seen other people from the UK who have,,,
https://www-nuggetforum-de.translat...tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc

So this is what Rolfb says on page 48;
“RolfB replied to New central electronics (Dometic) from MY 2021.75 - experiences and problems
The resistance cable, regardless of whether it is from Westfalia or me, has (unfortunately) nothing to do with the update, so leave it installed. The nuggets now being delivered have the Westfalia resistance cable and the new firmware on board ex works.”

I think as well as the fridge not working properly, freezing, the other issue it causes is that when ’off-grid’ the fridge draws a lot more current from the leisure batteries than it should do, which causes other problems,,,there’s all sorts of calculations shared by the users on the nuggetforum which are beyond me but you might get it all straightaway,,,
Kind regards,,, (hope the link works for you?)

VG, Rolf

Thanks for the help. I have more information from the direct links and have sent a request on to my dealer, given that my experience with contacting Westfalia direct is that they refuse to do anything but redirect me to my dealer ... It might take time, but I'll report back once anything happens.

I would make up my own linking cable if I could get the data on the resistor value and exactly where it fits, but so far I haven't spotted this in the many pages of discussion and attempts to register have so far all failed, but I will keep trying.

Good Afternoo,

Got sore eyes but I found what I hope you are looking for? ,,,
it was mentioned in the thread on the nuggetforum that I sent to you yesterday, so I’ll attach a link to that thread below,,,which over a few pages on,,,and goes into quite a lot of detail in how to actually make the fix,,,so this is all before Westfalia finally caught up! and then they copied/adopted this fix.

As I said in a previous reply that you referred to once made, or obtained from Westfalia, the wire with the resistor “in line” ,, “interrupts” (is how I’d describe it), the power supply to the fridge’s compressor which can be seen in the from the lower cupboard near to the fridge.
I understand that the “fix” supplied by Westfalia has the correct sockets, male/female to do this very easily,,,I haven’t seen it though.

My dealership didn’t know anything at all about it, fortunately though they were very receptive.

Obviously it’s your choice but rather than make your own, the free fix that Westfalia provided arrived quickly.

So the following is an extract written by, “RolfB”, ”the clever person/nugget owner”, who originally made the “resistor fix” that it’s widely said on the nuggetforum, Westfalia consequently then adopted or copied,,,,I referred to “RolfB” in an earlier reply to “Greengirl”,,,

“RolfB” says;
“Hello Tobias,
if I assume 12V measuring voltage and set the NTC resistor to 0 ohms in the worst case (short circuit in the event of a defect), approx. 30mA will flow through a 390 ohm resistor, i.e. with 0.5mm2 you are more than on the safe side . I wouldn't use anything thinner because in my suggestion the cable that is routed back parallel to the resistor in the second shrink tube is supposed to "stabilize" the soldering points.

And while we're on the subject, the resistor should withstand a minimum output of 0.36 watts (12V x 30 mA), but actually everyone can do that. If you want to reach a temperature of around 3 to 4 degrees at level 2, you have to be a little careful here. At 200 ohms, the minimum power of the resistor should be > 0.72 watts and not everyone can do that anymore.
Best regards, Rolf”
(Westfalia would do well employing a lot of those contributors from the nuggetforum,,,)
Hope this helps,,

Thank you again for tracking it down. I understand this in part, but have sent it to a friend who does. Before I try anything, I'll see what Westfalia comes up with in response to a dealer request. Eventually, I'll report back.
