For those who want to go electric. New Nissan e-NV200 from Sussex Campervans

124mile range in combined cycle. Add to that the fact that it will be close to the equivalent of a fully loaded panel van and your probably going to see 100miles to a charge.

Noble effort but complete non starter as a Motorhome, barely allright as a City Van.

I watched a couples exploits in one of them on Youtube, they went over to France and down to meet some friends for a climbing holiday, Austria I think, needed their Honda generator once from memory, because they knew a big hill (mountain) was coming.

So electric campers are back to where ICEs were with the VW campers 60 years ago. I wonder how long before they catch up to the current upmarket MHs of the likes of Morelo?

That looks like 48hrs to charge on a campsite 6A hook up.

My son in law had the van version on trial as a company van, gave it back after 2 days the maximum range partially loaded was less then 70 miles.

From 60K for a very compact van. No doubt cheap to run but not to buy.
Cheap compared to a VW California Ocean.
Not practical though. If The Real time mileage is as good as the MPG that manufacturers give for combustion engines, then useless.

It all depends what you want to do, i don't even avoid toll roads as I still work full time and i want to get to a destination asap and chill before it's time to hot foot it back.

But, if i was a man of leisure, even the point of taking 48hrs to charge at 6 amps could work if you plan your journey on that basis, a bit of a sight seeing tour, but you can charge much quicker at charging points.

Not sure I'd want it as an only vehicle, but offers a different challenge to a trip and way better in the west country than an 8 or 9m A Class.

The real test of whether they are accepted as a viable camper will come when they hit the secondhand market in 2-3 years - if they sell any new that is.

So by the time you`ve had breakfast, you are already down on range?. Having used the batteries to cook and make lots of coffee?. Hmmm??? And the Solar, is a "Cost Option" too? Not a lot of use then "Off Grid". One you HAVE to take on campsites.

Not at all, there are people travelling around Europe using fast charging points at a cost, free charging points and because they don't spend a small fortune on diesel, don't mind staying on campsites and spending money in local economies instead of giving it to giant petroleum companies. If I could be bothered I'd find a link to a guys European tour, but some people wont be convinced, so I'll do something else instead.

I had not clicked that there is no gas system.

So you have to heat by electric when it is 0C? Might be taking more out of the battery than putting in. Could 6A supply cope with charging the battery and providing heat and cooking?

And no ability off-grid.

Sounds about as much use as the proverbial chocolate teapot.

They have a long way to go before appealing to any sort of viable MH market.

I just had an advert for a Renault van pop up on my Facebook feed

They do a chassis cab that starts at 62k before you put a body on it so it'll be 100k+ as a motorhome

If the 3.5t limit is the reason they're so low on range the government needs to change that , most of the manufacturers build a 4t van , iirc on the transit its just another leaf in the rear spring.

75 miles , it'd take me 2 days to get to Dover

I watched a few a year or so ago, this was one of them

There are so many more now than a year ago, it's the only one i recognise.

I got as far with that video as when he took off 2 pairs of long socks that he wore to keep his legs warm while driving. Obviously they could not afford the electricity for heating and driving.

They did not explain the charging stops and time for 700km from St. Malo to Bordeaux.

The concept has a long way to go to be practical with full-height and range vehicles.

Great couple but both having masochistic tendencies though. Free climbing and driving something with just 100 mile range to Spain is not for normal folk. ;)(y)
