Hi folks
Although it’s winter even here in the south of Spain, the pesky flies are still about, I need to purchase a ready made fly screen for my auto sleeper Warwick, preferably with magnetic closing. Any info on manufacturers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers from sunny Spain

We use a couple of the string curtains on a pole which works very well and quite cheap.

I just use a cheap doorway net (bought from Lidl for £4 but I expect you could get similar in Chinese shop there in Spain ). I’ve not used the sticky back Velcro that comes with it. I hang the two pieces with the middle magnets to the outside sticking themselves to the shell of the open edges of the sliding door frame, loosely overlapping in the middle which allows entry and exit of the van. Secure the top with a couple of clothes pegs to the top of the frame.
It’s not a seal so no good for mozzies who hunt around for a gap, but great for flies and wasps. We move around so I like something easy to put up and then to pack away.

Mrs DBK made one out of black net for ours. It is suspended from a bit of curtain wire (the coiled white plastic coated stuff) strung between two small hooks I fitted. The bottom is weighted with the lead string you can buy for net curtains. There are small (10mm?) diameter magnets about every 300mm or so down both sides. It is a single piece and we get in and out through the side nearest the cab, uncoupling the magnets. If you wanted to use two bits of net you would ideally fit two curtain wires at the top so there would be an overlap between the curtains for a better seal - or use magnets.

The magnets needs to be well secured with stitching. They tended to fall out in the Mk 1. :)

It works well but isn't dog-proof.

Where did Mrs DBK get the lead string, I have tried various places around Plymouth, Dunelm, Range and Trago with no success

Donovan's in Kingsbridge sell all the necessary bits for net curtains. You can also buy it online from Amazon. It comes in 25, 50 and 100g per metres weights. Not sure what ours is but I suspect the heavier the better. :)

Try Mostyns at Faraday mill.
The indoor market might be another likely place but I cannot remember what stalls are there.
Otherwise you could look for old curtains/nets in charity shops and remove the lead weights.

There is always Amazon.... but beware the price quoted is per metre. Seems it’s a Rufflette product so look in places which sell rufflette heading tape.
Amazon product ASIN B005D4OVB2

I bought two of the magnetic mesh door curtains and extra magnets which I glued on the top and bottom, works pretty well.

OH has just finished sewing a home made midge screen with magnets for the side door of the van, ready for next month’s trip up the west coast. The magnets just pull away from the side for easy access, or we could use a cab door and leave the screen in place.
