Just booked our first trip on a non electric site .

The river location looks great and there is a pub that does take away food right by the entrance.
I am a little nervous about not having EHU but have invested in a good off grid set up that should be more than enough for what we require. I will post some pictures of the site when we arrive .
They allow open camp fires ( designated areas only )which we have never had a chance to do before .

Looks good (y) electric no problems for a couple of days.

We spent 6 months travelling around Europe in 2019. We only used an EHU a handful of times. We had quite a lot of electronics with us, but it was all USB or 12v chargeable. So we were fine with just solar.

Main issue was that we'd packed very light, so we needed to find campsites with full facilities about once per week to wash cloths.

Tresseck campsite is a great place, good pub on the doorstep and the gorgeous Wye

we always stop there on the penultimate days paddling on our annual Wye trip, as long as the suns out you'll be fine (y)

European supermarkets usually have a laundry area, and I've noticed some British as well.
and they are springing up at pertol stations/garages now too, I think there is an app that you can find them

Youll be fine mate, and will give you chance to use your new fancy batteries :)

It doe sfeel good the first time you go away and not use EHU but still have the luxury of inverter power.

Looks nice and not too bad a price for commercial site.
We hardly ever use EHU, Mi survived 14 days in Germany last October without EHU.

We have 5 nights near Foy on the Why at the end of July on a THS.

I've corrected that for you Lenny:giggler:

Some locate water at cemeteries. Lenny finds electrical power in hospitals.😂

When I first made my van "self sufficient" I tested my solar on an EHU site by turning off the charger so the only things on mains were the fridge and (availability of) microwave. As I had no inverter at the time I was effectively off grid but with no risk to the trip. Over 10 days I had no issues so regarded it as a reasonable test. These days I wouldn't bother but at the time it was a confidence booster I'd recommend to anyone uncertain as to whether they'd got it right.

There are quite a few washers and driers in the hull area. look for Sewell services, they seem to be putting them in to a lot of their services. Great fpr the duvets we can't get in our washer

Go for it, modern setups are superb.
About 25 years ago when we were ‘tuggers” we never had EHU for stays of up to a week. The only things that ran on it were the fridge and the charger, so some older setups worked quite well!

I regularly Freedom Camp.

I am a solo traveller. I do not have solar.

In my van I can manage three days and nights off grid. The first thing to go is fresh water which is closely followed by the grey tank filling up.

Shortly followed by a loss of Habitation battery power.

Black tank is four or five days.

If Iam about to do something power hungry, I may start the engine and leave it on tick over.

Depending on where I am I may put the grey tank into dribble mode.

Usually I will start the day with a coffee shop run. Battery charge, easing pressure on the black tank.

Morrissons petrol stations have never refused me the use of their outside water tap to fill the water tank.

Depending on my location a night onsite to replenish water, battery power charge, empty cassette and tank, resources free shower, is worth the £15.

If you have a moho with a 3 way gas fridge, gas heating and solar panels you should be good. If you have a compressor fridge and diesel heater then even with solar you can be pushing your luck with a long weekend. A compressor fridge can use most of one 100ah battery full in 24 hours. A chunky B2B will give you welcome options should you need them.

Hi Clive, all a bit technical for me. We don’t have solar panels but the heating / hot water can run of the diesel or gas. The fridge can run on the gas and the lights are led. The dealer told us that we should be ok for a couple of days but I guess having the van ticking over (as long as it doesn’t annoy anyone) should keep the battery topped up?
