I am sure all this has been covered but under pressure from her who should be obeyed to get one for touring in M/H. Any recommendations and do they work abroad ie France /Spain.

we use one in the van, it will require internet access via either site wifi which is likely to be a bit slow. or through tethering to a mobile device.

the 4k one that i believe is currently about £24 is good value.

We use ours right across EU, with a VPN and good internet connection BBC,ITV,Ch4, CH5 and Amazon etc all work fine.

It will work in Europe with full services if tethered to a UK registered data card in either a phone with hotspot or mifi device without a VPN.

Used ours all over France with a Huawai mifi and worked everywhere.
Just make sure your tv has an HDMI socket to take the firestick and your
sorted!

Went away for 3 weeks and through Belgium, France, Germany, and Switzerland and watched Netflix all the time and never once lost connection.
We are with EE and have unlimited data and run it through a Netgear M3.

They work all over the world as long as you have Internet, just done a trip to Prague but before covid it's been to North Africa, San Diego etc and still works, also use IPTV

Bloody annoying that our Avtex TV USB socket is on the underside of the tele not on the side, it catches as the TV lifts up from its hidden away location in our Carthago. Will need to sort out some kind of 90 degree adaptor plus a longer lead maybe.

Funnily enough the worst programs for accessing for me is Sky!
I can plug it into my USB slot on the tv and get picture with no sound or watch it on my iPad but then cannot access my recorded programs on the SkyQ box that’s at home🤬🤬
Also when watching on iPad you have to watch 30 seconds of adverts all the time🤬🤬

How do you get your access to BBC ITV etc please?
Others have answered. I also have IPTV on FireStick, so can watch all UK TV without sat dish…….,, which is kind of hard now in our little Campervan.

So mostly it's catch-up TV which is a bit limited as to what programs are available.

You can watch live TV through the apps, if you really want to. Other than that, pretty much everything then becomes available, unless limited by the licence holder, which is pretty rare. TBH, I've only watched about 10 programmes actually live over the air since we moved to our current house 10 years ago, mostly sports events. Other live events have been watched via the apps, either on Firestick/FireTV or PlayStation.

We subscribe to BT tv at home. The package includes all normal terrestrial channels, plus BT Sport and Now TV (Sky), which covers the main Sky and Sky Sport channels. All these apps are now on the Firestick, so we can watch any of them live or on catch up whilst travelling. Basically everything we have at home is available when we travel. Each to their own ;)

Basic requirements to get UK, BBC,ITV,Chn 4 Chn5 etc from a firestick while in the Europe. TV with HDMI input. Firestck with apps for these channels, USB Power supply for Firestick, you choose.....Data connection UK Based...if you use European Data connection , a VPN is needed, same applies to site connections. Its possible to change DNS,settings but aint going down that route...Simples...Happy viewing. Forgot to add...Make phone carrying UK SIM CARD a HOTSPOT or your own method of tethering....MIFI etc... TTFN.

Yes a great product, as well as an HDMI if you have a smart TV you can power the fire stick via a USB connection rather than needing a separate power supply. The separate plug and connecter is an additional add on which we ordered but returned as ours works well with just the USB. Very occasionally the TV flags up that there isn't sufficient power but it still works fine even on software updates.

For some reason our small Huawei wifi unit works great as the data supply for the Firestick but when we try and use the data via a hotspot on an iPhone is doesn't work. Sometimes it shows up as a devise that can be connected but even when it does it doesn't work - frustrating as I have loads of data on the iPhone. Any thoughts why that might be? Plus how do you sort out a VPN - not sure what that is or how that works?

We use a Netgear M2 (Coastal Cruiser. - didnt know there was an M3 ! M5 is the latest, so i assume there is also an M4?) i can highly recommend the M2 - i also found this link to a good priced unlocked EU (they do them for EU, AUS etc) M2 - but i cant vouch for the 'seller'

one advantage of the M2 is that not only can you connect your TV to it but also laptops, phones, notebooks, tablets etc - all at the same time - i think it allows up to 20 connections !

We have fire sticks in either tv and run it through Motorhome WiFi with an EE sim in it and as both me and Mrs Westy have EE phones on the same account we can both transfer data to the mifi unit so we keep the fire sticks tethered to that👍
We are presently in Bavaria and for normal TV we use the Satellite dish data free (I know this isn’t your question OP but after Jan 22 the roaming charges are in, so it might come in handy).

The essence of using devices out of you home country is to make sure you device doesn't give your location away....many VPN's are available to install...some work better that others...some are free, some need a subscription....the BBC use very sophisticated stuff to detect that you are connecting outside the UK...the best set up can be sourced here on Fun on previous threads...happy reading..

My mistake I also have the M2 don’t know why I thought M3:doh::doh:

Whatever it’s called it pulls in a good signal as always better than thr phone one and as you say can connect multiple devices, 😁

There is a Mission brand USB adapter for the Firestick available on Amazon that contains a power ‘buffer’ to ensure continuity of supply to the unit (instructions are to power up the adapter from an external source before initial use).

NordVPN appears to be rock solid with a user friendly interface. They’ve just had a deal for a two year subscription which includes 5 devices. If one is your Mifi router etc. other devices can be set to ‘trust’ that network and not activate their own VPN to avoid ‘double tunnelling’ issues.
