What is your preferred lubricant for the sliding side door rails, from experience - is it the oil can, silicon oil - or a good dousing of grease, to ease the muscle ache for swob of small stature ?!?

Would appreciate your views,
Many thanks, brian

I am guessing this on a Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen vehicle. If so the sliding door is suspended on a series of rollers. These rollers run in tracks, so if the action is overly stiff, it would indicate stiff rollers or dirty tracks.
So first thing to do is clean all of the door tracks.
Observe all of the rollers to make sure they are rotating.
Check for correct alignment of door.
If these do not help, then it is the roller bearings that need lubrication/replacing.
Lubricating the tracks is not a good idea as it will encourage the rollers to slide rather than roll.
Even with everything good these doors will always require a bit of oomph to get them moving.

My van when I got it ,had pots of lithium grease packed into the runners , making the door real hard to slide as the grease got dirt in it. I think each time it got stiff- add more grease.
I cleaned the lot out of all three runners with lots of rags and solvent

now I keep the runners clean whenever I wash the camper (every other week ) and a little spray of silicone spray on the runners every now and then keeps it good. And a little spray of oil into the door wheels & axles.

Mine slides quiet and closes easy now ,

+1 for keeping the track etc clean
I use a bit of dry lubricant as well
If you use oil or grease it tends to get a build up of curd on the wheels over time
Its worth doing the two tags that locate the door at the front as that helps closing

Many thanks to all of you for the helpful replies.

Geoff,Daniel: the door/rollers work and fit ok, I've already cleaned the tracks, have applied a very light mist of silicon oil to the tracks after cleaning and have used white grease on the cable, connector, socket holes etc as I identified "white remnants" from previous applications whilst cleaning !

The good news is, swmbo can now open/close the door (good muscles !), so many thanks to all for your help; mission accomplished !
