My standard radio unit is heading for it's final journey - To the recycling bin.

I've come to realise that the problems with it must be heat related, if I try to test it - it's fine picks up loads of stations and TA announcements etc. However on a journey it rapidly deteriorates and I just get white noise.

All the way up the M40 and M6 yesterday and it couldn't even find Radio 2.

Parked outside my house this morning at 7:00 AM - No problem 50 stations and TA working.

This has been a recurring issue for the last year, so it must be heat. The external aerial is fine, it's one of the A post variety and the connections are all screened cable the fact that the radio works even with the engine running this morning means it must be OK.

So here's the question, can anyone recommend a supplier or make of Radio that will

1. fit in the slot
2. work with the steering wheel controls
3. Get Radio 2
4. Get TA announcements

and optionally

5. DAB??
6. Bluetooth.

Never use CD's or anything fancy, SatNav is TomTom Camper, and I already have a Rear View Camera.

So will my local Halfords be the place to go?

Any help appreciated.

TIA

Gerry

I'm thinking of replacing my radio to a DAB one. I popped into a small Halfords and they said I would need to go to a large Halfords and they would be able fit one. I didn't get a quote though.
Sorry I can't be more help.
Good luck with yours.

Out of interest how old is your radio please, as we have trouble at times with reception.

I have a 2008 x250 with a replacement for the original radio.
This radio is ugly and also sometimes picks up a station and sometimes does not.
Have not yet checked cables and connections.
Mine has the aerial in the mirror as many have.

If it’s not a perverse request , would you consider sending me your existing radio after you have upgraded?
I’d like to set mine back to Orem and see how I do.

Quite willing to send some

Are you sure it's the radio and not the aerial ... it could be that you're in a good reception area at home and that's why you get a good signal, but when travelling it can't cope and Radio 2 is not the best station as they don't seem to boost the signal like they do with other stations.

What's radio 2:)

I have a 2011 Pug Boxer, which I believe have to same radio & CD player that you have. I normally only listen to my own music selection, so I had about 1800 tracks as MP3 files on CDs . Worked OK, but my previous vehicles had the option of a USB stick which is much simpler & I prefer.

I was in Halfords about 6 months ago and they had a special offer of free fitting including the parts required on any radio. I bought a single din Kenwood radio for less than £100 and they fitted it using an adaptor plug and a fascia plate that includes a small cubby hole - looks fine & works a treat - bargain.

There is an option to fit double din size radio as well, but Halfords didn't list the required fascia plate - but they are available. Cost for the fasica and adaptor lead would be around £50 on top of the radio of your choice

In my previous van, I fitted a double din unit that was all singing all dancing and it was pretty easy to do with an adaptor lead & fascia - if you are a bit DIY minded it's not difficult.

Hope this helps

Yes it’s radio 2 we struggle with at times, usually when pop master is on . Well that’s my excuse for not getting the right answers. Haha

No it's the radio, all the way up the M40/M6 no radio stations of any kind???

Press the search button and it just cycles.

And when I get home it's the same, but wait until the next day....... It's fine then no matter where I drive it wont work.

My new-to-me van came with an unbranded radio / reverse cam monitor / sat nav device that didn't function well as any of those things. I didn't want satnav or monitor but I wanted a double-DIN radio with DAB. I bought one of these & I'm delighted with it:

Just changed mine. Just plug and play.

Radio is still crap though. Poo signal. But can get radio 2 most places.

I had my dealer check mine for the poor reception and he reckoned it was the array of cables feeding the rear view camera and sat nav that was the problem. Sitting at home with the things unplugged it was better but you don't get far sitting at home.

Can anyone with a Kenwood answer this?
If you have satnav running on your phone through Bluetooth and have the radio on does the satnav interrupt through the Bluetooth?
My current radio doesn't and its a pain

I don’t think it does.
It will interrupt music or anything you are playing via Bluetooth.

Just found this over the past few days with Waze the App. On my Kenwood with my iPhone it connected by BlueTooth but would not play through the radio. While playing BTmusic Waze could not differentiate between the sound from the music and the sound from the app so was turning the sound down before giving an instruction then not turning the sound up again. Bit more fiddling and perhaps a brick through the Kenwood. Same setup in my Hyundai and all was well so definitely the Kenwood.
