I have always had my vehicles serviced annually. Last year I bought a brand new motorhome, my first. I thought i'd put it in for its first service this march, 12 months after getting it. However the Fiat Professional garage have informed that the service interval on Fiat Ducato is 30,000 Miles or every 2 years, The vehicle has done 7000 miles. I assume that there advice is correct and that this is compliant with the warranty guidelines????

I think the advice given is correct, but they only have a 2 year Fiat warranty anyway so no compulsion to use Fiat dealer? Mine is 2 years old in March and will be going to my reasonably priced, trusted local garage for its first service at 15k miles.

If your FIAT base vehicle was sourced and supplied by a UK FIAT dealer I believe it will have a three year warranty. Worth a check with the supplying FIAT dealer (not the converter). If that still leaves you some concern it’s worth a phone call to Italy on their English speaking helpline, whom I have found very clear and helpful.

It is a Knaus so it will be 2 year warranty.

Yes, mine is a Weinsberg (Knaus) so only 2 years.

I always have my first service just after the 2 year warranty is up them I use an independent at half the price of Fiat dealers.

Our's is a Sunlight, German, so two years, however great call Lenny :giggle:. Off to a trusted independent Fiat place now (y)

Lenny, would it not be best for you to have your first service carried out within the warranty period at a Fiat Dealer in case they find something wrong so any repairs / faults / engine software updates would be carried out for free?

My Hymer has just turned 3 years old, local garage who have serviced our cars for years charged £168.53p for a service and an MOT last week, very fair I think given the oil alone was £49

I checked with Fiat before the warranty ran out to make sure there were no updates required.

Parrot Face you might want to check on this as well. If less than 10,000 miles per year, then an oil and filter change is required.

As others have found its difficult to find a workshop (even a Fiat one) that will take the van due to it being too big/wide for their Ramps or too high for their workshop doors.
I envy all that have a trusted independent mechanic as some of us have learnt, listening to others on here, that Fiat seem to have made as difficult as they can for some indies to work on them.(fault dependent)
The Fiat Camper Assist App that I registered the van on when we first got it home from new, no longer works either, it was useful in that it showed whether there was a recall on anything that needed Fiat Professional workshop attention.
I did not need the van serviced or even an oil & filter change done until its 2nd anniversary, luckily the dealer did it, otherwise I might still be struggling to find a Fiat Pro workshop in my area.
Good luck to all of us in finding a trustworthy/suitably sized workshop, worth its weight in gold(y).

Not sure what you mean by this Jim, Is it a warranty requirement to have the oil changed at this point. Fiat garage did say that some people do have a low mileage service every 12 months . I have always had my services done by local garages but last time I used them for a major repair they ripped me off big style. Fiat at Walton Summit stepped in to complete the work, good job done , more expensive but felt they were more reliable and honest.

I the same as you wasn’t sure of the servicing intervals as it’s not in the book. I extended the warranty to 5 years, at the same time I asked for servicing intervals, “Service intervals are every 2 year/30,000 miles, but if less than 10,000 miles are covered annually, then an annual oil and filter change is required.” was the answer. This from Adams Morey warranty dept. This was 4 months ago on a 4 month old van.
Hope this helps

Agree the independent garage is cheaper than a Fiat Dealer however I would have thought the 2 year service might be best carried out just before, not after, the warranty period then anything they find outside of wear and tear would be covered.
I had mine serviced after 12 months from new as it was a condition of the Hymer warranty, not Fiat, I was told(?), plus underneath spray every 12 months even though it a GRP floor and a water ingress check each year again a warranty thing (the latter I think every year for 6 years). Then there is the habitation check but maybe most feel comfortable doing that themselves outside of a gas check.

I got confused and fed up with being different answers to this question so I spoke directly to FIAT UK Technical services department ( not a local Fiat agent who will put their interpenetration on things) and I was clearly told and unambiguously told that it was 2 years and 30K miles.

when I asked about low mileage they said, a low miles service can be done but was not necessary or required.
Those are the rules for warranty as i was given the direct from FIAT UK,
anything else you do is for your peace of mind and satisfaction and should not be confused as a warranty requirement.

if unsure; Don't call your local FIAT agent or garage call FIAT UK technical service direct and ask.
unless they have changed the warranty requirement in the past few years then you will get the same answer as i did.

The only requirement from Hymer is the damp check for the water ingress warranty.

Is the under chassis spray part of the damp check?
Yes, discontinued now. It was only an aerosol underseal sprayed around cable and pipe entry points. A bit pointless on a grp floor, like the damp check pointless on a body with internal alloy walls meters won't work on them.

Can anyone recommend a suitable garage/centre around North East Wales/Chester to establish a rapport for servicing, hab check and MOT's?
Thanks....

What price have people paid for 1st service - 2 years?

Was recently quoted £349 by fiat pro dealership in Bedfordshire.

£690 by Northern commercials in Northampton.

Just got a quote for £899  from Fiat (Johnsons) Swindon!!! Told them to forget it.....

when I asked about low mileage they said, a low miles service can be done but was not necessary or required.

I decided to have our motorhome serviced recently even though it is only one year old and has low mileage.
It was registered Jan 22, but the Fiat Professional garage informed me that the build date (of the Fiat bit) was April 21.
If I had left it to next year as recommended, it would have been almost 3 years since the build date.
Perhaps I was being too cautious, but it is always good to have fresh oil in an engine.
The cost of this service (which was deemed to be a minor service) was £340, which I thought was expensive.

Ouch!
That is heavy for a simple oil and I assume filter change

Yes - oil, filter and a few other unnecessary checks.
They did check that all software was up to date and reset the service and oil counters.
To be honest I was going to do it myself, but had no way of resetting the oil and service counters.
I know these count down the miles to next service/oil change but I understand that they are also time based.
Does anyone know what happens if you exceed the 2 year period?
Does it just give you a warning or does the engine eventually go into limp mode?
I have no intention of exceeding the 2 years, but as our motorhome was built 8 months before it was registered, there is a
possibility that it could be telling me that a service/oil change is required when it is only 16 months old, which is well before the
first service is officially due at 24 months.

£485 but parts/oil expensive (they charged fairly)
Chesleton motorhomes in Wellington, very pleased.
(They are Fiat Pro, and even do "cheap" basic service etc which I'm having next time with the addition of a new fuel filter (life too short not to)).

Please be careful about using generic garages, lots of issues on the earlier Euro 6 vans appears to be caused by the ECU(s) not being updated to the latest software, thus even serviced vans got issues with DPF/EGR/Injectors etc due to over fueling - which was fixed by latest software.

IMO £500 for a service at a Fiat Pro expert place is small fry compared to potential costs down the road.

Your money, your choice, but people who didn't have ECU updates can now have issues (or subsequent owners can)

FYI - MultiECUScan has access to reset service parameters etc. (I just used it to check the garage did the updates correctly and updated the ECUs - they did both, no issues)
