Carthago Chic I47
Hi. Have a Carthago Chic I47 on a Fiat Ducato 3.0 semi auto base. Having issues with the semi auto. Refuses to go into gear when cold, but operates perfectly well when warmed up. Got progressively worse during last winter's trip. Suggested fix is a £4k clutch and actuator replacement job, but can't help feeling that's an expensive gamble. Has the much read about 'shudder' when pulling away when cold, like the clutch / accelerator balance is wrong. But again, fine when warmed through and on the move. Anything simple to try before going down the expensive actuator replacement route. Any any north of England / South Scotland specialists in such a thing for diagnostics and the eventual repair please. Many thanks, Jon

Read about my problem that happened in July. It sounds like the clutch fluid is stale like in mine. Problem is the brakes and clutch share a master cylinder, but the clutch side the fluid does not get changed when the brake fluid does

Mine was thicker than syrup and would not drain out, the garage had to flush it though and a job that is easier said than done. Then get a clutch re-calibration done

Hi. Gearboxes, manual or auto, must have the oil and filter changed regularly, tho I expect you will have done that one. As the old oil thickens with use it causes the type of problem you have. Some manufacturers even give a thinner option for northern countries. Hope you get it sorted without the costly replacement.

Thanks for this. Have you got a link to save me trawling through your back catalogue?!

Thanks. Some ideas to consider for sure. The gearbox relearn and the clutch self calibration enable in particular.
