Hi.
Has anyone managed to get a reverse camera wired into the standard (sat nav) radio.
I have a setting to show reverse camera so I presume it's capable of displaying a rear view camera input.

Not done it on that particular unit but they are all the same. There will be a video input for the camera and a trigger wire that you connect to the reverse light circuit. Or you can connect the trigger to +12v via switch so you can select it manually.

when you say "they" are all the same do you mean all fiat head units?

No, I mean all double din stereo's tend to have the same inputs.

One thought comes to mind the connections are normally on multi-pin plugs and the stereo comes with adapter leads that are multi- pin to phono for the inputs. If you haven't got it you may need to source the adaptor lead.

Ours came with the camera already set up. I’m sure that they wire them up all the same and it’s just a question of getting a camera fitted.

Hi there is no standard RCA camera input socket. It may come from the multi plug.
It looks like reverse is taken care of judging by the screenshot (the head unit is canbus enabled) so maybe a case of finding the camera input writing connections.
Was really appealing to anyone that might have retrofitted one.

Ok the standard head unit definitely has a reverse sensor, probably through the CAN connection.
Just need to find out which connector to connect the camera to.
This is what happens when you put in reverse...

If you take the radio out, it's *probably* got a connection diagram on it (like the image below). If not, you'll be able to get the exact model number to do an internet search on.

This is the connector on ours (with OEM reversing camera):

Thx for that. I had that diagram - looks like the only one on the internet. I see you have the wiring in place as I have for the reverse camera. This wire must go somewhere and have a socket on the end to plug a reverse camera into. Would love to find it make installation a doodle. I've taken a photo the reverse camera wiring is the red, black and screened wire.

If the van came from Fiat without a camera fitted, you may need to enable it in the body computer. Those radios are integrated into the canbus. I know there is a setting to enable or disable the rearview camera function in the BCM, but whether it is your problem I don't know. You would have to get it hooked up to diagnostics to check the camera function status.

I did find this, but the wiring didn't seem to be there in a Peugeot Boxer that someone checked. Maybe USA only...

Search Google for connecting a rear camera to uConnect 5.0, VP2 or RA2 radios. Some forum posts indicate the terminals to hook up to on the back of the radio. They all confirm that the vehicle dealer will have to program a code into the body computer to activate the camera screen in the radio once the wiring is installed.
I think AlfaOBD software may also be able to do this with the registered software and a compatible Bluetooth or wireless OBD adapter.

I stuffed the camera wires into those wires back of radio and the camera came on, albeit really shite picture. So it seems all is enabled just need better connections somehow. Like I said would be great to know where the installed cable went to...?

I have the wiring factory installed just don't know where fiat terminate it in readiness for OEM reverse camera?

Thanks I did find this but seems hellish expensive?

If it is the same as the Promaster badged version of the van, it's on page 3 of the pdf file I posted above: In the cross member above the rear doors.

Sorry didn't see that attachment. Mines a coachbuilt.

I think for chassis cabs supplied for conversion, any rearview camera cable provision either terminates in a loom connector behind one of the cab step panels, or behind the conversion socket at the base of the driver's B-pillar. I can't help with identifying the connector though. It would be for the motorhome builder to decide whether to extend it to the rear of the conversion and by what route. I think it would be fair to assume that if the coachbuilder doesn't provide a rearview camera, there is little incentive for them to extend the cabling?

Thanks I'll try those places.
What's strange tho is Chausson pre wire a reverse camera cable from the rear locker to the b pillar. Not compatible connector I would think tho.

Do you have the conversion socket (multi-plug connectors and fuses) behind the trim panel at the bottom of the B-pillar? That is one of the placed Fiat indicate that the camera cable may run to on a back to back cab or chassis cab. The suggestion seems to be that it might be behind the plastic recess panel that the conversion fittings are in though, i.e. in the underfloor space below.

Did you mean Under the seatbelt bottom panel. See photo.

Yes, the black panel at the bottom. It has two forward facing screws and two at the rear. The top edge then unclips just below the seat belt mounting and you can ease it out.

Well you are correct found or straight away. Looks like the reverse camera 3 wires plus pos and neg power. Yet to test that. Wonder if I could buy from fiat the proper plug to connect to it ?

Can't help with the plug. Does the connector have a manufacturer's name and number on it? Might be possible from that to determine what mates to it and source it cheaper than from Fiat.

No,
nothing on it at all...

Going to try Fiat parts Monday but doubt they will be able to help.
