Fiat Ducato 5th Gear - fitting new synchro

Hello All
The new synchro sleeve I have purchased has a small groove towards one end presumably to show which way round it should go but the one I have removed does not have any markings.
Which way round should I place it groove towards the engine or away from the engine?
Everything was going well to this poinr!

I thought that the old syncro was the same both sides as people used to turn them around to save buying a new syncro & buy the gear only. & welcome
