Hi, does anyone have recent experience of using Fiat Camper Assist for EU breakdown/recovery vs. using RAC European Breakdown Cover or similar? I'm a bit concerned the Fiat option may not cover all expenses etc.
Thanks, Andrew

Any thoughts? Seems you can save a lot of money by relying on Fiat vs. say RAC which I normally use...
Thanks, Andrew

Not used it in Europe but Fiat Assist worked well for us on a recent UK breakdown. Their UK contract is with the RAC who attended and arranged recovery for our over 3500kg motorhome to a Fiat Professional. Good communication and service.

Thanks that's good to hear but I'd really like to hear of experiences of EU recovery...

This time last year had to use the fiat assist recovery when broken down in France.
Absolute nightmare
Rac insisted that they did not cover the vehicle with extended warranty and refused to deal with us.
I had to ring fiat in Italy (luckily it was during the day and mid week) someone there put a rocket up the RAC arse and we were dealt with, with constant phone calls for the next 3 days whilst the van was put back on the road.

Broke down twice in France sept 20 & 21 , the main problem is Fiat garages do not want to fix your vehicle ( I assume they get paid a pittance) so they try to avoid doing the repair, saying they can’t fix for 10-20 days hoping you will go to a different garage , fiat assist is run by rac who were shocking,
we got asked to leave 2 hotels because they hadn’t paid the bill , sent a taxi to pick us but never told the driver or us which hotel we were going to ( 1hr of calls to find out ) , sent taxi to take us to airport but never told driver or us which airport we were going to , their french counterparts were calling me to call the RAC as the wouldn’t reply to their emails , 17 times they said they phone us back but never did , the list if incompetence runs for 3 pages,
😰

Right now I am sitting at home waiting for my van to be repatriated. We broke down on 21 May. French garages are very slow so it took 10 days before it could be looked at. RAC have been very good, organised hire car, paid for accommodation and our transport home. It was only last week that we heard that a transporter had been contracted. Right now the van is in the same garage it has been at for 4 weeks. I believe it will start moving in the next few days and take a couple of weeks to get home.

Not sure if this is helpful but with patience I would recommend RAC to get you back.

The UK Fiat Professional garage I used (Adams Morey in Portsmouth) was excellent and got my motorhome back on the road the first working day after they received it. The workshop manager worked on it for 6 hours himself because they were fully booked. It sounds like the French Fiat dealers are a lot less helpful.

French garage we were taken too couldn't have been more helpful, made sure we were comfortable with hook up and water whilst waiting for part to arrive ( next day).
Our problems were solely with the RAC.

Wow thanks for all this. Some big variations in experience but it sounds as if Fiat Camper Assist can work. Thanks again, Andrew
