When put away there is a small gap midway down. Is this normal? Any advice gratefully received. Safe to drive do you think?

Thanks.

Should not be any problem driving with it like that as it is not going to wind out while driving.
Might be worth winding your awning out and then back in again to see if that locates better.
We had a problem like that a few years back and found that our leadbar was slightly bent. had to replace the leadbar to sort it.

I would say so if it closes fully - but have you a retaining bolt missing in the upper photo on the mid rhs of the picture…..?
It does look a bit like there's some tape residue along the opening maybe it's been taped over before?

is your fiamma attached to the van at three points? Should be to ensure rigidity and prevent too much pressure on the two end attach points. A lot of lazy dealers only attach at too points

It’ll be safe to get the vehicle home and then do the checks written above.

Are the red warning “flags” gone? The indicators at each end that pop back into the enclosure when the canopy is fully wound in.

I meant two - fingers not working today. Had that problem on mine spotted during hab check..Also if only two attachment points and only one bolt in each like yours is putting a lot of stress on those single bolts.

Thanks everyone. We’ll have a closer look at your suggestions tomorrow when we are on a campsite.

Had a similar problem with ours. Wound it out and then made sure it went back in even.

Just to let everyone know, we booked into a site for a few nights which gave us the opportunity to look at the awning.

First thing we did was to wind it right out and have a good look.

As suggested, we wound it back in and it’s perfect. Everything is back to ‘normal’.

Thanks again everyone for your help and support. All so quick. Much appreciated.

We had the same on the last van. Came to the conclusion that it's caused by the times I forgot to take out the centre rafter before trying to wind it in. It doesn't take much effort with a winder to bend the front plate.

Worst is I still occasionally forget, even on the new van.

Had a similar problem with ours a while back. Wound it back out a bit and found that the small "foot" at the bottom of one of the legs wasn't seated flush. Seated it correctly and all fine.
