Newbie!
Hi folks,
I’ve done a fair amount of searching here on concerns about ebike weights on bike carriers, but I’ve not found opinions on this.

My AS Neuvo came with a Fiamma Pro C rack fitted. It was a stated load of 60kg. We’re looking to get two e-bikes weighing in around 23kg each (was remarkably hard to find out!), so should be well within the spec of the rack.

So, I’m a bit confused about this recommended kit if you own ebikes. It’s clearly just the rails - and expensive they are too - so does that mean there is a problem with the standard ones?

Appreciate any advice!

For the person who wants to outdo the Jones' ?

I see no reason to want to upgrade to the links for the price for 2 e bikes.

I m with you. #deeplyconfused

I fitted one of these to carry our two e bikes, I too thought it’s just two rails and the price was a nightmare, BUT, I considered the price of our bikes and took the plunge

I have to say the new e bike add on is very good, much more sturdy that the original rack, wider rails and the strength is much better.

problem I have is I sold the van and removed the upgrade so have one here, that said I live in Spain 🥴🥴🥴🥴 otherwise you could have had it as it’s currently say in my shed taking up space

We carry 2 ebikes, , minus batteries, so about 36 kgs, carried on a 65kg rated standard bike rack. Bikes just fit on, and we have thinnish tyres.
Seems ok.
But I do wonder about the bounce effect in the rear wall of the van. The bike rack held on at 4 points. Each point has two small bolts through the wall and then through a metal plate about 11/2 inch by 1 inch. all of which I can see, on the inside of the rear wall. There might be more points of fixing as not had the rack off. Thinking about a tow bar mounted rack, but weight is an issue.

Did the original rack flex? To a worrying extent? I’ve not actually had the bike delivered yet, so not sure if the tyres are overly wide yet. And yes, bummer I’m not in Spain too (for many reasons!).

I did read in a few other threads that dynamic loading was a consideration for the weight limits of the racks.

I suspect, hope, the 65kgs for our rack is correct. However they are fixed to all sorts of vans, and it’s the robustness of that interface that I think about. I am pretty certain our rack , standard 65 kgs , holds the bikes and is robust, but because it is hinged there will be vertical movement and presumably horizontal movement , but potentially not as much. That movement is absorbed by the fixing to the back wall and the wall itself will move a bit or try and move. should be safe unless moisture gets in if not properly sealed. Not tested in habitation checks , nor any reference i have seen to inspect periodically. As I write this must take mine apart and inspect.

I worry about the weight on the bike rack as well. Working on the principal the rack is trying to pull away from the van at the top and into the van at the bottom, I added internal doublers at the top and external at the bottom.

If you are worried about the weight get a tow ball fitted and fit the bike rack on there. We have two E bikes and have never had a problem and in addition we can use it on the car as well.

I wasnt happy, every time I loaded them up, like I say the bikes are an investment on their own, the rack just didn’t seem man enough, I was sceptical at first because i thought this is a marketing trick, but as I said it is much stronger.

I changed mine to ebike rails. But the only reason was because the original ones were not long enough. The wheels were sitting right on the edge of rails and didn't have any support beneath the wheels. The new ones are around 4" longer and are a bit thicker and have sliding wheel stops built in.Not just straps.

Good point. I’ve not had a look to see if I can access internal mounting points.
What do you mean by’doublers’?
Thnx,

Yep that's also why we changed ours to ebike rails - the standard ones were slightly too short.
We kept the standard ones though and swapped them back when we sold the MH, and then sold the ebike rails and got our most of our money back on them (y)

It’s only as good as the frame they fix to.
