so my 1994 lhd fiat hymer failed its mot because the headlamps are foreign for lhd ,the garage says because all the equipment he and others use i also need to purchase right hand drive headlamps instead of the lhd with uk deflectors like on ebay even tho stated as for uk use ,and mot legal ,he says he cant set them up as his equipment is for rhd ,so my question is where the heck do i find 1994fiat ducato rhd headlamps.thanks to anyone who can point me in right direction as ime going round in circles on the internet at moment ,and need re test soon as possible as going away in the hymer soon .

My chums left hooker passed with headlight masks fitted!

my van has had them from in port but the mot guy gave me a advisory and recommended they be changed

bigfoot think one of my deflectors has perished too ,bloke said for future mot ide be better with rhd ones as easier to set up and no problems with future mot buddy

Our Dethleffs (same as Hymer) has got the original headlights, with deflectors or with black tape, and has passed the mot every year, with no advisories, since she was imported in 2008 - at 3 different mot stations. I would take it elsewhere...

billthe drill.thing is mine has never had mot in my ownership until yesterday ,now the last mot passed with no advisories ,so either mot stations vary on this ,or they dont know the rulings or ,the last mot was dodgy .

Last Mot I had done in Worthing last week. Same place as last year.
The 2 previous years it was done in Haverfordwest and the year before in Newcastle Emlyn.
No comments were ever made about the headlights.
So, either your garage doesn't know the rulings or they're hoping to supply new lights??
The last 'rhd' headlights I saw, on ebay, were about £200 a pair. I bought a spare pair of original spec headlights last year, new, for €46....

Bought my O/S one from coastal motor homes for £50, found my N/S one for £20, 1991 Hymer on Fiat Ducato.

£20 one is now £27, from Midlandcs on eBay, both brand new but the first one had the wrong size adjusters in the box.

Fitted them myself in less than an hour.

hymie is that the lhd with uk deflectors buddy ,i need a new light what ever as one of my deflectors is corroded,

geo where are you buddy lol/.the mot tester told me to supply the lights ,or fit myself ,looks like ile have to get lhd with uk deflectors

Well I brought my Hymer from coastal motorhomes, which was mot'd (on lhd h,lights with beam deflectors fitted.............)

if iu fit myself how would i get the beam right without a tool that shows beam height and position etc

Before you remove the other ones remove beam deflectors put van abut one meter from wall put on high beam.
Mark centre of beam with chalk on wall same with low beam its a rough guide set up your new lights to those marks.
The garage should be abill to fine tune them for you.
if you don't want chalk marks on your wall use a bit of cardboard and a dry marker

Ours is LHD A class with the round Hella lights that you can turn in the housing to make them right or left dipping no problems with MOT.
Friend has a Hymer and the MOT guy wanted the masking deflectors on as he did not realise that you could turn them, passed OK once he had fitted them.

Pick up a pair of Talbot headlamps second hand. Same fitting, but made for the UK.

think rhd drive ones have been stopped being made .
daf 45 trucks used similar light units . and it seems using fiat etc lhd units with deflectors is the way round it .
have a mate that reckons daf want 300quid for a rhd unit .

Your tester is incorrect and testing to the wrong criteria

Masks or converter kits may be fitted to right hand dip headlamps to temporarily alter the lamp for use in the UK by removing the beam ‘kick-up’ to the right. A headlamp altered in this way is not a reason for rejection, if: a.the headlamp aim is not rejected for the reasons listed under diagram 1 (except that the top of the beam image will be a straight line) b.the light output is not unduly reduced - not usually a problem with commercially produced kits c.the mask or converter is securely

He should be encouraged to read and understand the Manual and not just look at it
He is able to set your lights with a mask to give a flat top, with no kick up in either direction with his beam setting equipment if he knows how to use it properly
If he argues the Temporary part tell him it is temporary for the test, what happens after the test is not his business

Is it like this?

A couple of pics that ive created that may help those unfamilier with what they should be attempting to get a LHD headlamp ready for test, these pics only deal with the so called Kick up that seems to cause all the trouble with some testers
The headlamp aim with regards height is a simple up or down adjustment once the actual beam image has been made a flat top

Here's one on eBay. It says RHS but as far as I can remember LHS & RHS are the same.

Sorry, missed this one, stuck in the hospital.

They were selling both lhd and rhd, n/s and o/s, deflectors available from Amazon or fleabag for around 3 quid a set Nunny.

Hymie.
