.
I thought about getting some winter fridge vent covers.

but there is a space between the inside of our vents and the external vents. Approx 5 mm.

so I decided to get some very thin clear Perspex. Cut out the shape of the inside frame of the vents after making cardboard templates.
push them into position they fitted snugly and sealed up quite well. and then the vents fitted back again without touching the inner winter clear cover.

sorted and made another saving.

the plastic I used was thin 1.5 mm plastic that is used in some picture frames. I binned the rubbish picture scrapped the frame and used the plastic total price £1.
note written and placed over fridge controls inside to remove…

Looks a great idea 👍🏻 but what’s the “why” for? 🤣

You’ll know about the below 8 deg efficiency gains of fitting covers, right? 🤔

Edit: clarity and autocorrect shenanigans

I plan to do something similar with plain perspex, the price of Dometic is stupid for a bit of pressed plastic. You can get the locking turnbuckles off eBay for £1 each.

I just thought covers were to stop the inside of the Moho from getting too cold. No other reason.

I have a few spare buttons as they get more brittle over time..

Washing the van?

If inside of motorhome gets cold without covers you need to remove fridge and refit and properly seal fridge into position. There should be no cold/draughts getting into van from behind fridge..

Yes just went out took a picture came back in went to load it up and it’s clear sheet so you could not see it was there so went back out and put some masking tope on it so you can see it ..

If using the fridge during the winter you only need a cover on the lower vent, and do not block it completely. The official covers leave a narrow gap, perhaps a few small holes in your perspex. Of course if the fridge is not in use then you can cover both vents.

Thanks for posting the picture. I suppose the difference with the origina covers, to your clever modification, is that the last 2 louver vents are still open to the elements, allowing for the flow of air. As the fridges are meant to be sealed to the habitation area, are you worried about damp building up at all. Do you use the fridge while those are in place?

Wait, that looks like my top vent, that has the gas flu.
Your Perspex isn’t blocking, but FYI that flu’s not to be covered up by a cover.

But in winter fridge usage, it’s the lower vent that gets covered to increase efficiency 👍🏻

I am using them just as covers as the last time we we’re away we never used the fridge and yet despite others saying it should be sealed they are not the fridge we have now 19 years old is not sealed into position just pushed into a frame and screwed both sides.

the only vent part that is open at the moment is the fridge exhaust pipe you can see on the right hand side Of the image.
the bottom vent is sealed the same way removable.

i expect To remove both winter inserts before we use the fridge.
but it’s simple to remove and store. They will lay flat anywhere like the bottom of the wardrobe to the inside a cupboard.

The flue is not covered never saw any reason to .
But we will not be using the fridge with the vents on.

but with the inserts fitted will stop two things happening
they will stop any sideways blowing rain entering while it’s on storage.
and keep out the creepy crawlies at the same time.

They wont, there’s a gas drop hole at the back of the fridge!

Ian
Yes that’s sorted with a wind deflector. Home made and fitted to All the gas drops.
still leaves plenty of room for escape.

noted also that all our gas drops have a plastic mesh on them. I never done them as there fitted inside the holes.
