A neighbour in Benidorm has had a fresh water tank leak into the garage. Having taken everything out he found a large panel across most of the floor. Under the panel is a shallow void.
1. Does anyone know what this void is for?
2. Does anyone know how to get access to the water tank?

Many vans have a void, this can be for storage, a place to fit a safe or part of a winterised floor, retaining a barrier from the external cold.
Indicating what van you have could help locate the water tank.

Thanks for that.
As I posted, the van is not mine and is a 2012 Exsis - 1.
The void is large in area but so shallow it probably wouldn't take a can of beans lying down.

Malcolm Bolt We had one on our 2015 Exsis I and was told it was to accommodate sliding racking all it did was water that leaked from around the access plug to the fresh water tank.??? Wouldn’t be deep enough for a safe as only about 60mm deep

We have one on ours, no idea why and it is so shallow, it is useless?

May be irrelevant but our Hymer leaked from a split filler hose between inlet and top of tank , wasn’t obvious when filling but if we moved with a full tank we got a wet garage

that was hidden behind a panel in the garage with the Alde system ?

Thank you for all the above responses. I will pass the information on.

Leak sorted. He had drained down for the winter and inspection cover had not been replaced correctly.
Thank you anyway guys.

Assuming it’s the same as the later Exsis models, the void in the garage floor is a side effect of its design. It’s a one piece moulded part which is self supporting. The stepped void adds strength and provides room for the water tank at its front edge. Don’t think Hymer ever intended it to be used as storage:)
The water leak is a common problem , particularly if you travel with a full water tank. There is an upgraded seal for the inspection hatch if it is still causing a problem.
