Arriving on overnight ferry to hook of Holland for 2 week tour of Netherlands . Apart from Amsterdam, keukenhof & flower parade we look forward to visiting quieter areas & exploring ! Advice on aires / stelplatz or small sites/ farm stays please and easy access to public transport for the less able please

Naarden Marina worth a stay and the town is worth an explore and 20 mins public transport to Amsterdam, also Gouda Parking Klein Amerika right in centre of town 8 euros a night and parking for 28 motorhomes

It's nearly all quiet unless high season or special holidays. Transport is very good though we paid just over €5 per person each way for an approx 2 mile journey into Delft last summer.

If you like small farm type camping, check out SVR camping (svr.nl)there are sites everywhere, most with at least 6amp electric and good shower/ toilet facilities, usually very good free WiFi too. If you join for €15 you get 1€ or €2 per night off fees so pays for itself. Most are easily bookable by email and perfect English is widely spoken.

Apparently, avoid Nijmegen.

Welcome to the Fun.

If you can cycle, take bikes... the country is set up for it, and to a large extent so is the camp site and aire network (what aires there are).
City parking is hard, even in a small van. Trams are good but cycling is easy and free. There are lots of marinas which offer moho overnights at the official "farm camping" rate c€18pn (2023)

We too did a fortnight, and being culture vultures, we went through the pain of getting a Museum Kaart. For the price of a 3day ticket in Amsterdam you get a year throughout the country; -then a bargain. They do like their museums*... given there's not much else apart from cycling...
Getting a Museum Kaart requires buying it in your first museum inside the country, when they give you a five site ticket, but HQ post the year-long ticket to a NL address on the next working day. We had to predict where we'd be to get delivery...
* inc art galleries, castles, stately homes etc

We used the Marina De Turfvaart back in 2019 for a couple of different nights a few weeks apart. Found the facilities and restaurant good. Would use it again assuming it's still the same.

Nine years ago we also used Jachthaven de Hanze Zwolle and found it a pleasant one night stop.

If you are up for the A7 across the Afsluitdijk then there are a couple of overnight stops at the south west end at Den Oever and Camperplaats P Zuiderstrand, the former we have used but it's a bit expensive for lack of services and maybe road noise if that bothers you.

On the back of the M/home or riding? Either way no problem the whole country is set up for bike is king, you have right of way etc at every junction and dedicated cycling lanes and tracks all over the country, just make sure you have a good lock if leaving the bike most Dutch use the wheel lock through the wheel to stop it being pushed away

Yes looking to go over with them on our campervan, seems most ferries accept them, never been to Europe in van and not sure what to expect.

No problem on the North Sea routes for a bike rack, we have used all three routes that sail to the NL.
You may have to declare that you have a rack when you book, I just book a 7m van which includes the tow bar rack in that length.
I've never been checked or measured on any ferry that we have used to the Continent. Scottish ferries are a different matter - I've seen the tape measure come out when waiting to board.

Vijfhuizen near an easy train/ bus into Amsterdam/Haarlem but out of the bustle. Maastricht marina, wondeful, a bit of a walk/cycle into the town. Noordwijk for coastal dunes - great cylcling, but not much public transport. Tuindersdorf / T’Grom for a vegetable museum ( no, really it’s fab and free) and good train links. Volendam - lovely marina and cycling (it’s the Netherlands) and bus links ( it’s the Netherlands)
