We have 2 Jacks. The eldest, Stanley, is 15+ yrs old,,, physically he's a specimen and during daylight hours he's still a very smart dog (gets a bit vacant during the nite,,, we've been told it's onset "Sundowner Syndrome Dementia?").
Anyway,,, last two days poor Stan has had serious "trots", last two nites he's got us up every two hours.
Yesterday he had a serious vomiting session, but still asked for food later in the day and was drinking ok. This morning he looked very poorly and didn't want to drink, eat or go walkies, when he started to pace we reached for the phone .
Alfonso (site owner) recommend the Vet below.
Long story short,,, arrived for app at 5pm.
Examination, Xray, and Bloodtest all done within 20 minutes. Results ten minutes after.
Comprehensive summing up and explanation of the X-ray and the blood results which showed Stanley to be in fine fettle for an old dog.
The problem was inflammation in the large intestine.
Injection, tablets and comprehensive verbal and written instructions followed by the bill,,, 130e !!!
Cheap at twice the price!
We were hugely impressed and very very thankful.

Our dog nearly always gets the trots when we are in Spain. First thing you should do is just give small but frequent drinks of water and starve him for at least 36 hours Then return to food , again smaller portions and more frequently.

Would usually agree with your comments Borr,,, as Stanley has aged he's been more prone to the trots but he was a sick dog yesterday morning and obviously in considerable pain. Prior to that we hadn't been greatly concerned, even though his dirrarhoea was severe, because he was drinking,,, when they stop drinking though and exhibit pain symptoms, you can very quickly have a seriously sick dog on your hands,,, especially a (very) old dog.
No doubt in my mind, we made the right call,,, a combined experience of 80 years dog ownership sometimes isn't enough,,, professional help (and equipment) is required.
Thanks for your comments Borr. ??

I quite agree with you and when severe a vet is always necessary.
