We don't have auto switch over either and have had to find lay-bys a couple of times when we realised. No major problem but we will now make sure there is a warning on the dash, on the occasions we have the fridge on gas.

Do most motorhomes have automatic selection? I don't know, what I do know is that our fairly modern one doesn't, perhaps we should have a poll:)

Mine is 16 years old and switches automatically, no reason to think it's not the original fridge either.

It has never even occurred to me to travel with the gas on...
Me neither. With the new safety valves, I guess it's an unnecessary old fashioned habit but I always turn the gas off before we travel. We usually get the fridge chilled overnight before we leave and rarely bother even to switch to 12 volt while travelling. The beer is always cool enough on arrival :)

not long enough
we have auto selection and I am lazy and leave gas on, but we also have the safety valve thingie

one pretty serious concern I have is when refuelling at a busy fuel station, approx. 10 minutes after turning ignition off the gas auto lights, we have had it happen once that I am aware of while still parked at a pump

not really sure what the risk is, but guess there must be one

We turn it off when leaving the Aire at Canterbury. Fridge stays cold until turned on at the first time we stop after the Chunnel.

Another problem!!...................the perils of driving motorhomes:)

This is starting to sound like the forums of the Caravan Club.

Belt and braces, 'Elf and Safety, Rules and Regs, park near the peg, etc .........

For heavens sake, just go and enjoy yourself.
