you will have to fill an API before you travel but you would do that online same as flying

No need for any proof although we carried ours with us. There are still instances where you will need to wear a mask e.g ferries on the Italian lakes and they have to be a certain specification. Not the standard blue ones we have all (mostly) been wearing.

They are the FFP2 type mask. Bought them from an Italian pharmacy for about 80 cents. They sell them at the ferries for €2. That is the only time we had to wear them in Italy. A German pharmacy made me wear one upon entry.
