Hi Guys

Do all new MH's have engines that need Ad Blu ?

If so, how much do you need ?
Where do you put it?

Thanks
Robert

Robert, this was one of the reasons we changed van now, wanted to avoid the ad blue faff, that and fact that Fiat still using a 2.3 engine not 2.0 , don't think it will be long before they will also have to go down ad blue route.

With a larger heavy van, really don't fancy a 2.0 litre no matter how powerful, but maybe I'm just old fashioned!!

Bill

Haven't yet seen my actual van - but as I understand it, on a Citroen Relay, the filler is next to the diesel filler - hopefully it will be impossible to misfuel or put AdBlue in the diesel tank...

Another 'negative' is that because of the AdBlue tank, the main fuel tank is limited to 90 litres instead of the previous 120 litres.

If you get low you can make it yourself . It is only 32,5%p*** with the other 67,5% being deionised water. So only use the cassette for No.1's (y) combined with Aldi's spanish cheap as chips deionised water . 25L/5€ on offers . jobs a good un.

Err , that would be a no, I'm afraid. There was a report a while back of a young lady filling the diesel tank with adblu.................:(

Look on the bright side though. The system is designed to shut engine down if not refilled when due. You can make the system think it is full by some electrical manipulation. which negates the need to refill.

I'm not sure I'll be doing enough miles to warrant trying to defeat the AdBlue system but based on your post, I did a quick google - apparently there are many who offer AdBlue bypass and/or Emulators.
The use of which is not illegal, unless entering a low emission zone.

Are they the men at VW ?

Even if that bit is true, she must have been filling via a pump and nozzle at the HGV side of the filling station, rather than from a 5lt can. If so, and had she actually used the diesel pump there, at the higher HGV fill rate, she would have had diesel all over the forecourt - and herself.

My new Audi (3.0 bi turbo) has Adblue, garage says between 5-10k miles top up. It warns you when you have 1500 miles to go. So no hardship and easy to fill, as said its next to the diesel fill.

You're lucky,I only have a 75l tank for a 3l v6 in a 5t van.

I can understand (but don't agree with) a haulier with a large diesel fleet, cheating the AdBlue system, but for the few quid it's going to cost your average motorhomer and for me personally wanting to be as clean and green as my lifestyle allows, I will be sticking with filling my AdBlue

There is supposedly a magnet in the adblue tank filler that stops you putting any into another tank. I filled my van with a can of the stuff then later went down to a local garage where it is a lot cheaper in bulk for lorries and only got a squirt at a time from the pump, it took a long time to fill the can. It seems I should have had a magnet held next to it to trigger the nozzle.

Unfortunately not quite true. Urine only contains 2-4% urea whereas adblue is 32.5%.

And not just any magnet, an annular magnet is in the neck of the adblue filler to prevent the very issue mentioned, this makes it a very long and laborious process to fill a container.

The magnets can be purchased but great care must be taken when filling containers as adblue systems are very sensitive to contamination........and p***s:)

Isnt this the recipe for Lidl Conde Noble?

On SEVEL vehicles or at least Citroen Relays the 120litre tank was a cost option with the standard tank being 80 litres

Understood, but that option is (apparently) no longer available - primarily because the space is needed for the AdBlue tank. 90litres is your one & only choice.

Our new van requires Adblue. Where is the best place to buy? Amazon has Prime delivered at £13.99 for 10L while it is as cheap as £12.70 delivered. I noticed that Carrefour Coquelles had some in a cage (didn't need at the time so only registered as something different no idea if it was dispensed or sold in containers). I will have a 20L tank so was going to add 10L as soon as it went noticeably over the half way mark. Any advice gratefully received.

Current van also uses Adblue and my approach is the same as yours, @Camdoon , that is wait till half empty and top up using a 10L container of the stuff.

Have to admit to just going to Halfords and buying this http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/fuel-oil-additives/adblue-10-litre-can .

Accept it might be cheaper elsewhere but to be honest 10L in around 2,000 miles makes the saving you can get by shopping around irrelevant for me. E.g. A £2 saving over 2,000 miles is not as precious to me as time taken shopping around.

Buy it in bilk from a garage pump, or in a 10 litre can from the same but NOT from Halfords or a main dealer.

I seem to remember a few years ago they all said them gas gusseiling yanks it would appear they were all wrong and we should all have 6 litre cars vans motor bikes in fact any thing that uses petrol.
