EU Pet Passports Debated in Parliament Thursday 2nd Dec

ive set my alarm clock for 3pm and every 15 minutes after that, just to make sure i stay awake ...

Can someone tell me what this is about, please? Is it applicable for everyone with an EU passport or only for those who live in the UK? Thank you.

Hi Richard. I'm sorry but I can't find anything that says what it's actually about. Can you point me in the right direction, please, or just give me a quick overview? Thank you :)

A petition was started (several of us signed it), and with 100,000 signatures should be debated by Parliament. The petition was “should UK rejoin the EU pet passport scheme” (not sure how that could work personally though). My wife (who also signed the petition) received an email this am saying it was to be debated, I thought it was in Parliament, but perhaps rb62 knows better?

Fingers crossed it raises the profile of the issue.

Has any petition like this resulted in anything positive?

I've always thought that these petitions are just a sop to make us think we have a say in things.

Hope to be proved wrong though.

I think it's just something they do when sufficient signatures have been received and maybe worthwhile but the only thing the UK can do is ask the EU to re classify us!

The real work is done in committee and behind closed doors, the theatre is of little use.

Will anyone be there to listen?

Well, having waded through the Hansard transcript of the above debate, there was very little of relevance for the majority of pet owners who just want easy travel to Europe. Four petitions were merged into the one debate, there was a lot of prattling by just 3 MPs and I learned nothing new.

I have posted a screenshot below of the sole relevant paragraph from the Under-Secretary of State, Rebecca Pow (who has considerably less Zap! Pow! Wham! than Batman):

For those who want to bore themselves silly, the following link is to the full transcript:

Well from that clip of the transcript it sounds like exactly what we want them to be discussing, and targeting with the EU - is it not?

Hopefully the debate will move things along in that direction!

The whole Part 1 listed country status should have been settled as part of the original Br*x*t agreement, but the implications of failing to do so were totally overlooked. It would have been very easy for the EU to agree to it then - a minor detail from their point of view. However, with all the blustering that went on about how we would not be adhering to EU standards and reporting requirements with regard to animal health, they probably had little choice but to make us Part 2 listed. Now we have made ourselves very unpopular throughout Europe - to the extent that France in particular is even making it difficult for Brits to obtain EU pet passports. So what incentive do they have to give us Part 1 listing retrospectively?
