After an uneventful trip from Scotland the van seemed as if it had lost power while driving south from Dieppe. Granted there are some long hills but my foot was getting hot grinding the gas pedal into the floor. There didn’t seem to be a howling headwind, the fuel consumption seemed normal, what could be wrong?

Then I saw the scrunched up rubber mat under the accelerator pedal ;-)

I hope I’m not the only one...

Been there done that, all through Belgium to Germany. It was only in the daylight I thought. Doh!

i bought a van at a discounted price once because it wouldnt pull the skin of a rice pudding. drove it home very slowly at a top speed of 40mph. next day i went through the engine and found the accelerator cable was stretched and nearly snapped. fitted a new one and a good service and it was a totally different van to drive

I bought a secondhand BMW when I moved to Geneva. Loaded the family into the car and set off. Scraping noise around every corner. I thought the dealer had conned me. Took the car straight back. Dealer cut two cm off the bottom of the rear mudflaps. All sorted.

Got to own up to this as well....

On our first trip in our van skiing to Italy, the wife commented that the van was sluggish - dont be silly I said, its a motorhome, what do you expect!

Once settled on the campsite, I retrieved something from under the drivers seat & noticed the rather thick mats that ran under the accelerator pedal! A quick trim with a knife resulted in 1/2 " more pedal travel & an instant power upgrade for the trip home!

The unavoidable conclusion is I should listen to my wife more often..working on that :)
