I cannot get the step to work, I know its motor is ok as I connected it direct to another battery. I have checked the fuse in the EM50 behind the drivers seat and that's ok. I have changed the relay in the dashboard and now when I press the step button I can hear what I think is a relay operating in the EM50 intelligent interface adapter but still no movement of the step, help required please

mine stuck last week (Project 2000) it was the micro switch that sits inside the step which i assume is there as a back stop ? any way it was stuck in so it thought the step was in even though it was out, cleared it just by pressing it in and hearing it pop out, all good afterwards

I have a Project 2000 step on my driver's door, what a pile of poo.
Dealers sorted it twice under warranty still went wrong, sorted it myself last time & it's not gone wrong since.

The operating arms are only retained on the gearbox with small self tapping screws into the nylon gears, they have a habit of falling out and the arms falling off.

I stopped the arms falling off by fitting larger & longer self tappers.
Also when the dealers repaired it they used white lithium grease. The plastic guide runs on the extruded aluminium rail, plastic does not like white grease you would have thought the dealers would know this. Even in the Project 2000 instructions, it says "do not use White Lithium grease".
The white grease causes the step to bind which puts more pressure on the operating arm so the screws pop out.
I cleaned the rails & guides thoroughly & degreased them, re-greased with ordinary LM grease not had a problem since.

Yup.. mine would randomly pop out when the van was parked and locked
In frustration I removed the EM50 and went over every joint on the board.. lasted a few days then out she popped again.
Took the EM50 out again and took every component off the board and refitted.. Replaced the caps, the TTL chips and diodes
lasted a few days then out she popped again.
Contacted Sargent and arranged an S C O ( service change over ).. from memory £50
Turned out the board was a very early one and some of the through tunnels ( that connects one side of the board to the other ) was faulty

The plugs on the EM50.. Are they colour coded or all white ?

They are white

In that case you too have one of the very early ones that were close to experimental !
The later, better made ones, had colour coded plugs
