Has anyone been to Edinburgh recently is it worth a visit given the rubbish that has a cumulated over recent week, TV coverage says it stinks in the city centre, we are due to go there next Sat and don't want to go if it is not pleasant, anyone help us decide if to go or not

Next Sat is a long way off. I could say no it doesnt stink at the moment but it might by Sat if rubbish keeps accumulating and bins not emptied but IMO the media always make the situation worse than it is.

We were there for 4 days and left this Monday.
The piles of rubbish were disgusting, the festival cleaners are doing their best but they are complaining that they are having to clean the general rubbish as well. It wasn't smelly when we were there. I wouldn't let it stop you though, if you do go make sure you go to the Tattoo it's amazing, but make sure you buy the tickets from the Edinburgh Tattoo site and not a ticket seller ie Viagogo we paid £65 each whereas Viagogo wanted £230

Getting pretty wiffy on Saturday but the strike ends on Tuesday 30 August in Edinburgh, I think, so I would go in to a holding pattern! Check out Edinburgh Council website for an update.

Think you will find the the tattoo has finished. We live in Edinburgh and haven't been for a few years and went on Friday and wasn't too impressed to be honest but each to his/her own view. It's academic anyway!

Edinburgh has always had a bit of a whiff to it. Any time I've been in Gorgie I've thought it smells of dog food.

That will have been the smell of the S&N brewery which wafted an aroma of hops over the city depending on the way the wind was blowing.

Your area of the city on the other hand, smells impeccable! Must admit I do love Joppa.

It is lovely right on the seaside and the thing is there's loads of room for parking for motorhomes just past the end of the beach. There's a large stretch on seaview terrace where you can park on the road next to a grassy verge, open your doors and get a fantastic view over to Fife and down the coast. The Ormelie pub is just 2 minutes away as well.

Dustbin men and women are much more valuable to the vast majority of the population than brain surgeons or stockbrokers.

What a shame their pay doesn't reflect this value..

JJ
i agree but there is a correlation between pay and the price the consumer is charged.
so we can all ask for more pay to keep us at the same level we were at before all this S*IT kicked off.
But this get us no where, for example if you earn 10k per year a 10% rise get you 1k.
But you are lucky to earn 3 times as much so 30k gets you and extra 3k.
If we gave the whole county a same amount rise in there pay we all stay at the same level.

???

I am merely stating that rubbish collectors are more useful to the vast majority of the population than a brain surgeon or a stock broker.

Refuse collectors should be paid more than they get at the moment and probably brain surgeons and definitely stock brokers should get less.

Are you seriously suggesting that bin men should earn the same? And why just Brain surgeons and Stockbrokers? I assume you are talking about Doctors and Financial experts in a generic way. I certainly would not value a financial advisor as much as a surgeon or anaesthetist but in each case the skill set required is more than a bin man needs. These may be a time when I need specialist medical treatment……. I don’t need specialist bin men 😇

Don’t confuse this with a lack of sympathy for the bin men, and anyone else who feels they are not getting paid enough

Oh dear dear dear me...

I never ever said that I thought they should be paid the same.

You might not but I definitely DO need specialist bin men...

Sorry, my mistake, you didn’t say they should be paid the same. I do agree that they should be paid more. Pay often reflects either the skill, the training or the fact that the job is one that few others are prepared to do. In this case I would say that few people are prepared to do the heavy and sometimes dirty work involved, so yes, pay them more………

However………. I don’t like being held to ransom because someone else believes their particular cause and method is justified.

RANT ALERT!

What I’d like to know is why do stupid members of the public insist on trying to dump their rubbish in or around a full bin in the first place? I would (and have recently) taken any rubbish back home with me. It’s not rocket science!
