Checking the van out for next month checked alde heating no lights at all.
I could hear a buzzing noise from under the floor must be bat charger me thinks so had a look.
Found the EBL220 fried looks as though it nearly caught fire.
Looks beyond repair to me.
I've found exchange units online for around £270 but I don't think I could exchange that.

Can I ask if you had the EHU hook up connected and left on or were solar panels installed.
I have the i800 that has same EBL unit.

Ehu plugged in at home no solar. I had unplugged it last week for a drive to mot station.

Wow that's nasty, any smoke?

How many and what size leisure batteries.?
When we got our Burstner last year I was advised by a few people to be careful ref battery bank as the EBL chargers are rated at 18amp and hence it's advised on 2 X 90amp batteries.
Some had fitted bigger or more batteries and had issues. Just thinking if there was any link here.

Too big battery bank would only cause problems if constantly charging batteries from fairly flat.

Sure looks nasty could have set the van on fire.
I would email Schaudt and ask their opinion of what may have happened you may get a good will guester from them. Lay it on heavy about how dangerous it could have been.

Good idea 👍. Sure they would want to avoid that picture going all over the social media. Very rare for it to have happened I would have thought. They seem to normally have a good reputation and fitted to top end vans, just like mine :whistle2:

I was always of the opinion that if your wiring and connectors are up to the job that increasing your battery bank size shouldn't be an issue .it would just take longer to charge the bank up and your charger would be working harder for longer..and i still think that..but it does appear that a lot of motorhome power supply units are not up to the job..
A lot of interesting reading on the a&n caravan site on the subject..certainly worth a read ..and make your own mind up..

Agreed. Most helpful to me recently.

Yes, they are proper, professional, engineers from whom I too had great service.

I‘d be surprised if they couldn’t help the OP out.

Have emailed Apuljack see if they can supply replacement. Apprantly it's £700 new

Had the case appart looks like the side that got hot is 12v in and out

Apuljack managed to repair my unit (same as yours, from a Burstner) but as was nowhere near as bad. I would say you definitely need a new / refurbished unit :(

But in discussion with Apuljack, I also bought an additional charger from them (their own product) as I have 2 x 110A batteries and on the rare situation that more than 18A of charge current is required, the 2nd charger kicks in preventing any overload of the EBL unit.

Ive also got both chargers protected by a fairly beefy surge suppression adaptor.

I'd also recommend trying these folks - AandN

As you know Andy they repaired mine by turnaround post & were very helpful👍

Maybe the OP should test the leisure batteries for faults.

If one was found to be faulty (ie. shorting out), it could have caused high currents to flow through the EBL with the consequent burning out.

At the top right hand side of the unit there is a name "Joe Wilson". Perhaps it's the name of the previous owner and it has previously been repaired ???
