Hi all.
New to the forum and in the market for a second hand 4-6 berth motorhome. Max budget of £19000.
Saw a nice looking Auto-trail scout on Ebay, item number 182952834945. With low ish miles on the Mercedes cab / chassis.

Is there anyone out there with knowledge of this model and it’s faults or what to look out for?

Any help or advice would be greatly received for this newbie.
Many thanks.
Jez

Oh thanks. Have they gone down hill more recently ?

Thanks
Everyday is a school day as they say.
Hoping to gain some valuable knowledge on this forum.

Just remember it might have been well built but I would have thought after 14 years it would be reasonable to expect some signs of age

Spend 18885 instead and pay a years subs to this forum is my advice . Ask about vans payloads and all the experience thats on offer .

Welcome @Jez348 wise move to subscribe :xThumb:

The 2003 models were good years for Autotrails, it should have the Aluminium sides.
Cant comment on the Merc but everyone seems to love them.
No general issues come to mind, damp is always a factor with any coachbuilt motorhome so either get a meter and check as much as you can, around windows, down where the walls meet the floor, around the overcab bed area and rear lockers are common areas. Or pay for a check by an independent engineer.
If its a private sale also check all main appliances are fully working on all power sources ie Fridge, water heaters, oven etc as these could be costly replacements if faulty..

Be aware its 3800kg so you need a c1 license to drive it.

Had very little use in the last 3/4 years. I would fit new tyres.

Always worth checking MOT history, spent a lot of time doing nothing!

Welcome aboard Jez:xThumb:

The problem with motorhomes (any brand) is that in their raw form they are nowt but a transit van with a tupperware box on the back. Most transits are designed to cover high mileages over a handful of years and then scrapped so, with this considered, you really need to give the base-vehicle a thorough examination to see if things are in an OK state of repair.

I'm sorry to say this but there are lots of motorhome owners out there who haven't got a scoobies about the vehicle they drive or indeed the jobs that need doing to help safeguard the longetivity of the base vehicle.

If you are not tech minded then take someone with you for the viewing or else it could be a very expensive journey for you.

All the best and good luck,:xThumb:

There are some nice older Autotrails out there (pre 2004/2005 latest) so as long as the base vehicle is fine and the main habitation bits work then you'll get a good van.

Good luck

Dont rush it..
Keep looking at layouts as that's very important, make a list of things you would like.
People often rush in and buy a van then discover things like no lockers on the outside or anywhere to keep chairs etc.
Or that the van has little payload and so once loaded they are overloaded and not legal for the road..

Lots of advise and tips on here, just keep reading and sure none of it will go to waste when you look at the next van.
