When you visit somewhere in the UK, do you support the local economy? Pre Covid-19 obviously.

Always, wherever we are. Take very little with us from home, shop locally (I include supermarkets in that) and eat at restaurants 2 or 3 times a week.

We always seem to end up with too much food, though!

100% we do, pubs, restaurants etc. That’s what it’s all about isn’t it. I see a lot of people that pull up, set up and sit in the van all day.
Why would you, might aswell sit in the van on the drive at home.

As with any self catering holiday we do a bit of both, take some with us and stock up, eat out, go for a coffee and/or a pint. Couldn't afford to eat out every night, nor would I want to, but the food and drink we we use is. mostly, bought along the way.

We enjoy sampling the local pubs and restaurants and we like to shop locally. I think it's great to support the local communities we visit and I hope it makes us more welcome.

Yep always try to visit a local pub and always seem to find something to buy in local shops. (y)

Both.
found some cracking local places, usually, in Europe, 2 lefts and a right turn off the main drag!

Half and half- take some shopping with us for convenience and then eat, drink and be merry locally.

Always! Love visiting my daughter in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Walking along the Thames, lunch and a few pints in a pub. Same with friends in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. Wife likes to shop. I hate it, so slide off to the pub.
When in France, love to eat out, but as I cook mostly, I also like to knock something up myself in the Wok.

YUP......the van is used more like a bed and breakfast.

I don’t really get the away from home break, if your still doing the at home cooking and stuff.

If we can stop overnight for free yes, if we have to pay more often a no. A bit hypothetical as apart from festivals haven't spent a night in the UK for a couple of years.

Usually a trip is organised around stopping near attractions be they restaurants/breweries/distilleries/museum/galleries/parks and then visiting them, do find gift shops intensely annoying unless they offer something different.

We tend to use the larger supermarkets for shopping when out and about as parking is a lot easier. We eat out locally where ever we are and an decent opportunity presents itself, but nothing better than cooking and eating in and around the van (y) .

We eat out locally and also cook in the MH especially where there is a local market where we can get fresh ingredients.

Swmbo cannot resist a local market, and guess who gets the treat of carrying it all back to the motorhome. Don't go anywhere in the uk though. Spanish fruit and veg is grrrreat.

Agreed, continental markets are the best.

Eating yes, shopping no, but then I don’t shop when at home.

Not that good when you are in the UK though which is how the thread started!
Yes, I think I got over excited when I started thinking about foreign climes....you are absolutely right!

We do however try to buy locally and eat out when here in the UK, either at home or travelling. We can’t resist adding to the profits of a little local deli..in fact been out today to grab some cheese and paella rice from one just around the corner!

If I am going somewhere like Norway I stock up with as much stuff as I can before I set off but if going somewhere like Wales or Scotland I take care packages for the poor inhabitants

We take a few basics with us, just in case we arrive late and absolutely knackered.

Apart from that we buy fresh every day for the evening meal, generally a cold plate type meal, always eat lunch in town.

Why go overseas and take "english" with you?
