Can anyone give me a clue? after so much hassle I have had my driving licence back today with a 3 year allowance and was YAAAAAYYYY...

BUT NO CLASS ONE when I turned it over !! and no other communications or reply to my complaint about what was going on and where the licence application was.... . Can I appeal or even ask why I have not had my C1 ? I really can't understand why I have not had it renewed- hoping this is some mistake .       ... could they possibly have just found the licence they originally lost and renewed it without looking at the paperwork [also lost ] Straws .. clutch ....
Do you get some notification if they decline C1???

Isn't the first time they've made this mistake!
Advice on here, and elsewhere, is to make sure you keep a copy of your licence (if you're returning it with your application) for this very reason. Not legally supported but it does give evidence that they've mucked up!

You don't state your age but if 70 then the C1 automatically expires unless you take, and pass, a medical.
After 70 the license is for 3 year intervals regardless of C1
This is the second year my C1 has been in question for a medical condition which is NOT DISCLOSABLE to DVLA ..... I have taken and passed the D4D medical last year was not asked to re take it to renew -just fill in some nonsensical forms which they lost . Denied that had . Denied they knew what was happening [which I believe ] last year. As they only gave me CI for a year last time I appealed ; complained x 3 [no reply to any of these ] I have written to my MP writing again. but I am ??? re WHY TH F... I have not got it this year with no more medical issues than before and as far as I am concerned none that affect my driving.

Holiday to Norway booked in our 3.5 ton plus van in July

I have my counterpart paper licence showing C1 at 18 , so this is my only hope if they deny I ever had C!.....

I'm sure there used to be a service where you could pay the DVLA for a copy of your current entitlements as registered with them. Think it cost £5 or similar.

I know a few bikers were doing this before sending their licences off to be renewed as there were lots who got them back without any bike entitlement and had to sit their tests again at their own expense and inconvenience. A lot of licences seem to have been 'lost' just before renewal too.... and then found down the back of the sofa just after the new one arrived.....

DVLA can't argue with a letter they've issued, especially if it's backed up with copies of the old licence and any other supporting evidence.

Can't seem to find it now. Looks like it might have been replaced by the 'share code' which I'm not sure is going to be as helpful.

I'm hanging on to my old paper licence for as long as I possibly can.

Do you mean this?

I think that's probably what's replaced the service I was referring to.

The problem is that being electronic, I suspect that once they've updated your licence details on the system and missed a bit off then when you use the link to view your licence you'll probably only be able to see the 'current' incorrect version.

The old system was one where you paid a small fee and they would post you a letter listing your entitlements. There would be a record of you paying to have this, and a record of them sending it and the letter itself with the corresponding date and information from them.

It's too easy to forge a screenshot or digital image these days. They would never accept that as proof on its own.

Ah! Found it!

You can request a copy of any data the DVLA hold on you from this link.

Now I get the whole picture.
I believe you have to take the medical EVERY time you renew as your personal medical history can change withing the current license timescale.
This is why I NEVER return my license for renewal. As far as they know I lost every licence they ever issue to me
They can't argue with a document (license) they issued.
Photocopies and photos can too easily be manipulated....but the official document can't

MP has not replied apart from initial response saying letter received. Just onto second letter ; also going to phone oncologist to see if she said I could not drive [??? but cannot believe she would have done so - I am currently healthy; on surveillance walking 10k steps a day etc and all tests ok as far as we go today ]

I got the link from a bike forum from someone who said they had used it for this purpose.

However, that was back in 2013 so things may very well have changed.

I'd certainly try contacting them and finding out if there is a mechanism for agreeing their system information matches what's on your licence before posting your licence off.

There have been too many instances of missed categories for them not to take a request of that sort seriously, surely?

As I understand it; under GDPR, any entity (including government departments) must, on request, provide to the person a copy of all data they hold about them. That includes financial scoring etc (if requesting from expedia for example) and it includes licence categories if you ask DVLA. I suggest you give your MP a nudge due to timing of the pending trip.

Whilst in the process of dealing with the scum just use the paper one showing C1 for abroad*

* but get the necessary international drivers licence to back it up

In order to keep my C1 I was required to have a medical 2 years ago when I reached 70. The option was, not to have the medical and drop the C1.

Thank you all for help and supportive posts . Just about stopped hyperventilating; emailed MP again and she replied within ten mins saying she is contacting DVLA on my behalf. :dance2:

Hospital procedure tomorrow so can ask the Dr if she was contacted and if so did she tell them I was incapacitated ....

Looking at downplating van but it will leave very little payload and at current low ebb would possibly be unable to cope with any more DVLA non replies....

First world problems xx [but that's where I live ]

If consultant had said you were unfit to drive, consultant would have to inform you as well, as it is YOUR responsibility (not your consultant) who is responsible for informing DVLA, only time consultant provides info is at DVLA request and then if saying you're fit would also inform you as well.

Having had to deal with DVLA medical section on behalf of work colleagues, I can attest to their incompetence. PSV driver over 65 with medical history could wait upto 9 months for licence renewal and then receive the next set of forms to renew for another year.

I'd be inclined to leave the Dr more scope in the answer.

Ask the Dr if she was contacted about driver licencing or medical matters and, if so, what was the response given by the Dr.

Been there.! Just down plate and move on. These retards will eventually kill you with there incompetence.
THANK YOU ...But I will have to do that via ....

the DVLA :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.

Actually thinking of it as a plan B , but my Celtic blood is up now I have stopped feeling suicidal;
They are going to reply to my 3 complaints, AND EXPLAIN WHY THEY HAVE NOT DONE SO IN OVER A YEAR SINCE THE FIRST ONE .
. They are going to be answerable for their incompetence .
They are going to explain WTF they are/were thinking ; and why- as Public Servants - they are incapable of the simplest part of their job.......

If you make a subject access request to DVLA they are usually expected to reply within one month (unless it is a complicated matter) They also have a legal duty to maintain accurate, proportionate and relevant information about you, which extends to rectifying any errors you may bring to their attention. These are not 'nice to do' things, they are required in law and should be pursued to make sure they actually fall into line. Too many government bodies try to hide behind all sorts of spurious excuses to hide their preceived lack of accountability. Under GDPR a short letter to the DVLA data controller might prompt some action. If not they may face a fine. Sorry it is a constant pain making progress, they have already had a kick up the backside about poor service, before and during Covid times so you would think they would be quite keen to be seen to demonstrably more efficient.

I'm in the process of trying to retain my C1 after 70 but have had problems due to 2 hospitals being "unable" to do as DVLA requested and now my GP is being consulted, so I am concerned about even having a licience at the end of this. NOw my main thought is how do i prove i have certain catagories without sending my paper copies (lost 6 month ago down cushion) and also found a 28yr old one previously properly lost when moving, do you physicaly go down to swansea and say ere look at this or some other method.
