Hi I wanted to order some movie dvds from Bookery to play on my Avtex tv but they all have mkv after the title. Will the dvds work in my tv?l

Depends on the age of the tv. Ours plays them via a USB and is 2 years old. There is a hack to make it play extra file types - I’ll try and find it and get back to you.

My tv is nearly two years old too. Did you get your dvds from Bookery Ven?

This is what we did but am not sure if it will definitely work for dvds too:

By default the Link Removed only play MP4 movie files. However if you press the Source button and then type in 2580 on the remote it allows you to change some settings in a hidden menu, select USB at the bottom of the list and change it to on, The TV now plays MKV, AVI and DIVX files too.

Ah ok, that does say USB. I wonder if anyone else on here will see my post and know if it works for dvds as don’t want to order them if they won’t work. Thank you thought Ven for such a speedy reply.

.mkv is not a video DVD format. So any DVDs you might buy containing .mkv files are data dvds for use with a pc/laptop, not in a DVD video player, such as your avtex TV.
Mkv is a video container, not a codec in itself.
So a mkv might 'contain' an mp4 file, or xvid or avi formats
As TVs primary purpose is to receive broadcast TV, the software for external formats can be very limited.
There's no beating trial & error.

There's software to expand compressed mkv formats into DVD format.

Thank you Stephen, although as a bit of a technophobe I am not quite sure what you are saying... try and see, I am guessing?

What are you trying to buy from Bookery, the name suggests books but they're not video?

Ok... so they're hooky vids on a data DVD... they'll play on a laptop/PC...
I suspect not if you stick the disk in the TV... but perversely they might if you copy the files onto a USB stick.

Ok great, might give it s go them for £3 ?. Thank you Stephen.

Our 18" Samsung TV from 2013 plays avi, mkv and mp4 downloaded data video formats ?

Will my Betamax plug in OK?

Hi Ri hard and Ann, how do you play them? I am talking about using dvds in my avtex dvd slot?
I paste them onto a small memory stick (SanDisk Cruzer Fit) a standard definition film can be about 700Mb to 1.5Gb ?

Try downloading the DVD to USB stick and plug that in. My Samsung TV now seems to read almost all types of file downloads
