We want to visit Durham Cathedral during the next week, the giant Moon is on display, is there anywhere to daytime park our MoHo for the visit near to the Cathedral?

hi... a good option may be use the park and ride located just off the roundabout at the junction of the A690 and the A1...
usually plenty space and large bays that accommodate a motorhome..
Andy

One of the P+R are allowing overnight parking too.

I can't help with daytime parking, but if you wanted to stay over for a meal and a drink possibly, you could book in to the Rowing Club, and walk into the city.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I was training there Jock for 2 days a few weeks ago.
It was £15 last time I enquired I thought I wonder if it’s gone to £17.
£25 it is now for a CL parked right next to cars.

Baxter Wood farm is £7.50 where we stay in Durham.

It was about £10 - £12 a night when we last stayed there Paul. Can you walk from Baxter Wood Farm into the city, or is it on a regular bus route?

Edited.................Just had a look on the map, and it's looking unlikely. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

You can walk in about 30 minutes Jock. There is no hook up and it’s grass only.
Although the first couple of hundred yards are steeply uphill.
Yes I was shocked at the big increase at the rowing club for a CL.

Please give my love to Durham. I was at university there(Hatfield College on the Old Bailey and I am very fond of the City.

I think the Cathedral is magnificent, particularly the different carved pillars. I much prefer its simple style of architecture to the more ornate stye of many continental cathedrals.

Booked CAMC site in Durham and probably will get bus in from camp site. Thanks for all your replies.
We are very keen to see the Museum of the Moon on show in the Cathedral and maybe take a run out to the coast.

thanks

Lumiere is on in Durham the week after. They will be setting everything up next week I would imagine. The Cathedral will be involved as well.

There is a bus stop a few yards up the hill from Baxter Wood Farm.
P.S. Don't forget to ring the bell to get off. The driver does get the bit between his teeth down the hill.

Any idea as to which one? The website for PR says no overnight parking, but I hope its a local thing that you can - anyone?

I went there with Roger Whittaker but it took ages to get out because he didn't want to leave Old Durham Town ....

You can whistle for that....... Blimey, that's going back a bit!

That’s because he thought he was on the banks of the river Tyne.

What was that definition "A Geordie is one who lives on the banks and can spit in the Tyne but a 'real' Geordie is one who lives on the banks of the Wear and can still spit in the Tyne"
