Hi, my 2020 Ducato sits on 16" Alloy wheels and when I went to my local Fiat Dealer to order some locking wheel nuts, I provided him with the registration and he advised me that my vehicle was on 15" Hubs, the guy sounded knowledgeable :nerd: so he ordered me Locking Wheel Nuts (50901523) suitable for 15" wheels, does this sound correct and if not what checks can I carry out.

Thanks in Advance CJ

Have you got 16” tyres fitted? as I would not think they would fit a 15” rim?😊

The parts guy is correct

You've got a "light" chassis, with the hubs originally for 15" rims and 118mm pcb

The maxi chassis, with different style 16" 130mm pcd rims are the 16" hubs

Thanks very much for confirmation (y)

this will explain a little about PCD (pitch circle diameter) and bolt spacing.
as above, the Fiat light chassis has hub with a 118 PCD and 15" wheels as std, with a 16" option which must have the same PCD (i have this option on my own van, so have been through this process for sourcing a spare..)
the Heavy chassis has a PCD of 130 and comes with 16" wheels as std....but these will not fit the light chassis for the above reason.

Yep just been tthough this seeking a correct spare wheel for our 2015 Peugeot badged Ford Powered Boxer on a Maxi chassis with 16” rims and big brakes on a 130 mm wheel bolt pcd just check that the cone angle on the bolts is the same as your wheels

Sounds like you have 16” wheels with 118 pcd then?👍🤞

Its quite common for the light chassis to have either the standard manufacturer's steel wheels of 15" or alloys of 16", hence the confusion.

But Fiat do make it confusing, I have a 2019 Chausson 530 on the light chassis with 16 inch wheels with 130mm pcd alloys. Confusing, to say the least!!

...or even 16" steel with pretty covers as i have....

ive certainly not heard of that before...are you sure its not a heavy chassis downplated to 3500kg?

Ah but we have Alko chassis so they are not the original ones manufactured by Fiat.

I think you may have the wide rear track version so not a 'normal' chassis and thus made specifically for MH use.

I've just done a search and Chasson fit 16" wheels as standard regardless of if they are steel or alloy.

Do Alloy wheels still get stolen? Back in the day it was common for cars to be seen sitting on bricks with the wheels gone. Now almost all cars come with alloys I would have thought it wasn't very common these days. They are nice wheels though :giggle:

Ignoring the 15 or 16 inch problem for a moment. I don't believe wheel nuts are the same for steel and alloy wheels. Alloy wheel nuts are flat where they contact the wheel. Wheel nuts for steel wheels are cone shaped where they contact the wheel. Or, at least, they used to be....

I would check that he has ordered locking wheel nuts for an alloy wheel as the part number you quote is for steel wheels.

I have the same wheels as the OP , 16 inch 118PCD
I just bought a spare (steel ) wheel and have been assured that I won't need different wheel bolts as they will fit both the alloys and the steel no messing.
The wheel arrived yesterday but ive not had chance to check it out yet.
Im now on the hunt for a cost effective way of securing it under the van as I don't have a spare wheel retainer under my van.

I asked in local tyre fitters, they said steel wheel bolts will be okay on my alloys. That was 3 years ago, not had any problems so far.

Not as much as the late 1990's, however there has been an increase. Typically, thieves are targeting high value alloys which can cost several thousand pounds. The market for this are leased vehicles where the alloys have been kerbed, and the lease holder has to pay for the repair of each wheel before handing the vehicle back. Legislation was introduced to assist prosecute before the theft occurs; "Interference with a motor vehicle." This means if anyone is seen meddling with your car, motorhome etc, it is an offence. The purpose is to prevent theft occurring.

Might be worth ringing round a few scrapers to see if they have any vans in which you can get the kit off.

The bolts are 13mm

all Compactlines are on alko chassis.....arent they......ours certainly is..they wont have changed the front hubs when puttin on a rear bolt on chassis.
the Alco hubs will be 118 if the original cab/chassis is 'light' and 130 if 'heavy' (if that makes sense)...

An update after collecting the Locking Wheel Nuts, The Locking Wheel Nut is on the Left The bolts measure the same although the original bolt head is taller.
JFYI my wheels were upgraded at point of sale from 15" steels to my 16" Alloys as part of the Automatic Gear Box upgrade. Thanks for all the comments / Info (y)

Too answer an Ops query Do Alloy Wheels get stolen simple answer is Yes they do especially from VWs which was my previous Camper which had an under slung carrier which are so easy to nick from although I had a Locking wheel nut on mine (y)

Hi things have changed I guess, mine are cone shape.

I think most are nowadays and they are bolts not nuts
Thanks and I know they are bolts but its still to this day a very common term used (Locking Wheel Nuts) for describing Locking Wheel Bolts :giggle:;)

Yes but as it's a 'bespoke' chassis Carthago will spec what they want as opposed to those built on a standard chassis.

i assume Carthago will specify the 'light' ALKO rear chassis for vehicles that are oredered and will be sold as such...these will have cabs with a 118 PCD and therefore the rear end will be specified to match...cant have the rear being different to the front, can we?
similarly, those ordered amd converted to be Heavy vehicles will have a heavier/stronger rear end and the cab will have wheels with a 130 PCD as will the bolted on ALKO rear.
this is why, we have to specify light or heavy when ordering a new Compactline as it available on either.
if we order light, all wheels have a PCD of 118....heavy all will have 130.
