Ducato and Scudo on site at Caravan & Motorhome 2007

11 October 2007
Four Ducatos and a Scudo will feature prominently on Fiat Professional’s stand at this year’s International Caravan & Motorhome Show in Birmingham’s NEC exhibition centre.

A pair of ‘Back-to-Back’ Ducato chassis cabs and two other Ducatos adapted for use as motorhomes will be the focal points of Fiat Professional’s stand, along with a smaller Scudo-based motorhome.

The Birmingham event is one of the most important shows of its kind in the caravan and motorhome calendar, and is a valuable exhibition for Fiat Professional, the commercial vehicle arm of Fiat Group Automobiles SpA, especially as Ducato is the most widely used chassis on the motorhome market.

One of the Ducatos on Fiat’s stand, a 3.0-litre 160bhp MultiJet LWB, features a new generation of robotised gearbox, called Comfort-Matic. The transmission, which will be available from January next year, helps the vehicle’s engine combine excellent performance with low fuel consumption, and offers the choice of both manual and automatic transmission.

The driver can opt for conventional auto mode, but can also elect to use the gearbox like a sequential manual, but without a clutch pedal. Comfort-Matic transmission also gives the driver:

Uphill-Downhill Mode: selecting the right ratio for each incline;
Warm Up Mode: emission reduction for cold starts;
Brake Assistance Mode: supporting deceleration;
Kick Down Mode: abrupt acceleration for overtaking;
Fast Off Detection: gearbox inhibition if accelerator is rapidly released.

“Enthusiasm for motorhomes continues to grow and we are delighted to be the first choice chassis for many of the UK’s motorhome manufacturers,” says Gerry Clarke, director, Fiat Professional. “The Caravan & Motorhome Show is a major event and we’re looking forward to being there, demonstrating our fine range of vehicles and superb technology.”

The International Caravan & Motorhome Show runs from 16-21 October 2007.
