Hi, i want to fit a dual control solar panel regulator, can anyone tell me the correct size of cable to use and what size inline fuse. I am led to believe the fitting is fairly straight forward, one wire to the vehicle battery and one to earth!

For safety, anything thicker than 2 mm2 will be fine. For efficiency, to avoid too much wasted power due to voltage drop, I'd go for 6 mm2. The fuse should be a bit larger than the maximum working amps. So if the controller output is 20 amps, a 25A or 30A fuse is OK.

In a motorhome, the negatives of both batteries are connected together by a fairly substantial connection. This means that only one negative connection to the solar controller is required. No benefit in running two negative wires, but no harm either.

I have this kit wired with 4mm cable.
The biggest problem for me was getting the wires across to the starter battery.

And a 20A one of these fitted before the controller so can switch off the solar panels

While we re on this, my hab batteries are 12volt and my chassis batteries are 24v, can anyone think of an easy way to get a cable to charge the chassis batteries from the regs that are already charging the hab batteries? Could be one you you martin funflair ?

Stick 2 panels in series and run a 24v regulator then charge your 12v from the 24v.

We can do that next week Jon.

Sterling 12V to 24V battery maintainer? A lot less than £366.

That looks ideal. Thanks

Jon
