Hi everyone,
We have recently purchased a 2003 burstner and the drop down bed struts feel weak. To me it appears that the weight of the bed is on the the “car type” safety catch, ie the 2 small screws into the roof. How easy is it to replace these struts and
where is the best place to purchase these? We are at the show next weekend so should we talk to the burstner rep and see what price they come in at?

I have emailed them for a quote. How is Portugal at this time of year?

Hi JJ
Am I right in thinking that the weight of the bed should be supported by the struts and not the seatbelt attachment?

I take it you mean in the up postion , the belt & clip is just ensure it stay up. Struts should hold it but a locking mechanism in your case the strap is required to stop it bouncing up and down a bit when driving particularly on rough roads.

Hi Lenny
Thank you for the reply. That is right I think the weight of the bed is being supported by the struts but the “car seat belt” appears to be under strain and potentially held up by two very small screws in the roof and my concern is that going over a large bump could cause the bed to drop on our heads!! I hope what I am saying makes sense??

Our last Hymer had the belt to hold it up never caused any problems and that system has been in use for many years. Once clipped in I used to pull it tight as if the bed is tight against the roof it can't bounce about which should put less strain on the fixing.
Our current Hymer has a latch system that holds the bed firmly against the roof.

Warm and very dry...

My Hymer bed stays up just on its stays but needs the straps in case of bumpy roads etc.
