I had to stop driving for a few weeks on my 70th birthday last year due to a potential eyesight problem. All sorted but I was told I had to have the driving eyesight test again in 3 years when my renewal is due.

because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know

I’m 70 in April, have got forms for renewing licence including C1 but need medical at cost of £100, same as one for HGV does this seem fair?

I got mine a couple of months ago and like pagey, I didn't bother with the C1. Had to send it back, the clowns managed to get my address wrong! How did they manage that?

How long before you apply to keep your C1 on your licence can you have the medical

Three months, I checked because I want to be away on my 70th at the beginning of July so will be coming to the UK to have the medical and sight test by Doctors on Wheels who only charge £50 and supply the forms, and understand them. I have heard that they are really good as well. Even though they will meet you in a lay by of your choice!

It comes around 3months before you are 70 you can fill it in straight away and t he new one will be dated from your birthday this is providing you are not applying for. The c1. Mine only took 5 days as I used gateway and my passport for my identity all done online it was very easy

My understanding is that The C1 medical (Form D4) is valid for 4 months from its date, but that one can only apply to renew 3 months prior to expiry date.

DVLA now run the next 3 years to expiry from the date they issue it, not the date of the previous expiry, so if you apply early you may lose some weeks if it is processed quickly.

hi this must only apply if you are asking for c1 as my license (no c1) is dated from nov 15th 2018 to 04/02 2022

>>> driving license at 70

Ridiculous - no-one should be driving after 70 !!

made a booking with Doctors on Wheels this morning, nearest location they attend is 50 miles away near Sunderland and the only days they were in attendance in December were all Saturday afternoon appointments so I had to pay £61.

You must be a lot older that you look on your photo!

I am still using a load of passport photos that were taken in Turkey for a job there in 1991.

With glasses on and not counting the hairs or creases I still look(approximately) the same - never been stopped at Immigration.

I used Doctors on Wheels in Bristol, in the back of a Transit van on the Avonmouth industrial estate. Not even a doctor in attendance, just a ink block stamp with doctors name from midlands. Maybe that’s why my licence still with DVLA when I submitted the forms June 6th!!

Doctors on Wheels don't do Yorkshire I was told, I must be imagining seeing them on the A1079 every time I see them in the layby there :sleep:
