Converting a Van

I'm a Total Newbie!
I want to remove the double passenger bench seat and replace it with a single passenger seat. That will free up space for entry to the living space via the driving cab.

Does anyone know if a "drivers seat" will fit on the existing mountings for the double bench seat on the passenger side?

The van in question is a 2013 Peugeot Boxer L3H2.

Front Single Passenger Seat - Peugot Boxer / Fiat Ducato / Citroen Relay
£475.00

This seat is taken from a pre registered 2019 Peugeot Boxer which is the same van type as the Fiat Ducato and the Citroen Relay so this seat can just as easily be fitted in these vehicles too.

Taking the uncomfortable double seat out and swopping it for this single is a quick and straight forward process as the bolts for the double are the same as the single. You will need to take the seat belt buckle receiver off your double though as this single seat doesn’t have one but that too is a quick process as its fixed with just one torx bolt.

The seat has an arm rest on the right hand side and is also height and lumbar adjustable. These seats pair very nicely with a swivel plate which you can buy on ebay and are an ideal addition to any motor home or camper conversion.

Fixing points are : 44 cm long 33 cm

Good luck

The vans are set up with floor mounting points to be either left or right hand drive. A drivers seat will fit but it will only use two of the double seat mounting points the other two will be located under the floor mat. Did the same thing with a van conversion that my son completed last year.

You can buy a single passenger seat which is a straight swop for the double as far as mountings are concerned. I bought mine from Cabmasters but it was a few years ago. If you get one you may have to use the seat belt stalk from the double seat.

When I changed my van over from double to single, there were loads on ebay, many brand new from converters

I got mine, still in it's original plastic, and a swivel for £350 and it is the one that is fully adjustable

Yes it will. You just have to modify the floor mat after locating the mounting points.
If all else fails though, mark the seat mounting points on the floor, and then use rivnuts to secure in place.
I was going to say it will swivel in the wrong direction but realised it has no swivel !

Thanks guys. It's nice to know a drivers seat will fit on the passenger side.

£475 is massively out of my price range. I'm amazed by how much these cost, even second hand the cheapest I found was £120 and that had ripped and stained foam and no cover!

For now at least I may just have a drivers seat and no passenger. That or take a grinder to the double seat and convert it to a single seat!

I wonder what the MOT man would think of that! ?

Hopefully I'll find a bargain some time soon. Perhaps when the local scrap yards open up again after this nasty virus has gone.

Check Mels Van World on U Tube. He cut a double seat down to make a single seat for his Sprinter. MOT wise I suppose it’s the same as having a single seat as long as it’s still properly secured and the seat belt isn’t altered.

I'll have to have a study and see if I can do something similar. Would be nice to get rid of the seat as well as the back rest too.

The man is clearly a genius. Fantastic!

van seats are just so bloody uncomfortable. My choice would be to buy a pair of matching front seats from a large car. Look on ebay or facebook for people selling parts

The last van I converted, I picked up a good pair of seats for £80 delivered. Just re-drilled the mounting holes in the runners to match the base. No issues at all with the MOT

Perhaps an option for the future. I like the cutting idea because it's free and I'm currently spending a fair amount doing the conversion.

Is it as simple as drilling holes in the runners and bolting the new seats on? I'd assume different seats have different width runner and not all are mountable on the Boxer runners because of this.

the runners as you say come in different widths etc but you could fit a simple steel plate, angle iron or even a swivel between the base and seat to adapt

Fitting car seats to van isn’t unusual there are threads on U Tube about doing this.
This isn’t anything new. My father bought a Fordson 15cwt van from a local news paper printers in the early fifties. It had two bundles of news papers and a plank for front seats.
He fitted seats from his mates Ford Pilot car that was being scrapped. He said they were like arm chairs.

Have to disagree on that one, our ducato seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in, talking driving and relaxing. (The ricarros in my escort were something else)
fully adjustable so suit 5' me and almost 6' John. my doblo seats have all the same adjustments too.
Don't thik the motorhome seats have any extra padding, and wont be able to check for a while.

Not the same base vehicle but I am sure theres no difference between transit van seats and the ones we have had in both our Duetto and the Rienza. The trim is changed to match the interior but I think thats the only difference. Modern van seats are far better than they use to be. White van man has to have some comforts.

Mum has always said that if Dad and I started an odd jobs business we should call it Dodgeit and Scarper. ?

Took the angle grinder to the double bench seat today. This is the result. Hardest bit for me was the sewing! I’m not good at that!!

Not bad for nothing and saved myself a lot of ?

When I was working at the roadside the vans we had were fitted with double passenger seats. If it was raining I could squeeze through to the back to put my waterproofs on with the Transits. As skinny as I was I couldn’t do that with the T4’s.
I could do the angle grinder bit but would need management to weald her sowing skills.
