I recently applied an automotive grade silicone to the scuttle top of our new Burstner as there was a six inch section where the scuttle sat 3 to 4mm away from the windscreen, letting in water to the engine bay. This seemed to work well but a few days ago I tried to remove the plastic cover which fits over the coolant bottle. This cover is attached to the scuttle by three fixings. Being a new vehicle the cover has never been removed before and was a little stiff. Trying to remove it ended up by pulling the scuttle away from the windscreen and destroying all my good work with the silicone. I now plan on removing the silicone (which will be a pain) and replacing with an automotive waterproof tape (ironically my first idea). My question is: is silicone or tape the only solutions to this issue; are there no third party aftermarket fixes for this problem?

Can´t advise on the tape but if you go for a sealer then use a marine grade Sikaflex, more durable / UV resistant etc..

Few years now
Mine went in for a fix under warranty and the fitters appear to have used some sort of silicone. I have added some 3m tape over the top.
