Hi guys,

So we might be in the market for a newer van and I need a bit of help finding the right layout.

I know theres some vans out there with proper full size lounge seats on both sides of the van up front. I think its the big Swift or Bessecar?

I'm looking for a tag axle 8 meters or longer with those two proper full size long lounge seats. Not that daft chair thing pretending to be a sofa near the hab door. And a fixed rear bed, preferably an island bed.

I'd like dethleff or burstner N&B or similar. Not really that fussed as long as it's a decent brand.

I'm thinking second hand.

Budget upto 100k

I know one of you guys must have the same sort of layout so would love to hear your thoughts.

I believe that the large Autotrails have that layout option

Given recent posts, I want to stay away from UK motorhomes. I'm thinking German preferably.

Sometimes Pelican, I think this is the beauty and the curse of the internet.

Everyone is quick to complain and those stories stick in your mind. This is my main reason for not shopping British. There's just too many negative comments from owners. German van owners have problems as well, but nowhere near as many as the UK built vans.

Going with the law of averages I'm hoping for a better van from one of the German manufacturers. It's a shame there isn't more people like you to defend the British brands.

I know it’s British but a Swift Kontiki (possibly 669 Black Edition ) has the layout you want.
but, the side sofa seat backs are very low and look uncomfortable.
we were very happy with our old Swift, possibly the best of the British made vans

our latest van has the layout you want, but only 7.5 m and no tag axle. I think the Burstner Elegance has a similar layout and size you want but with one side sofa being an L shape.

I know you’ll do your research, Dave. Enjoy your holiday with the family, and good luck with the finding another lovely van, my good man!?

You've hit the nail on the head!

I want those long sofas like in the Swift but in a big Burstner (I do have a soft spot for those big Burstner!) But the Burstner Only seem to do those L shaped seats with the small sofa on the hab door side.

I'm looking online at mobile.de and eBay but there's literally hundreds to look at. I was hoping somebody could give me a model name/number and I could narrow down the search.

Hi Rusty,

I've not even started on this search properly yet. It took me four years of looking to find our current van so I'm definitely in no rush! And I do love our current Hobby but I'm running out of jobs and upgrades I can do. I know for most people this would be Nirvana but for me, it gets a bit boring.

Whatever I end up getting, it'll end up having loads of upgrades. I've got my eye on loads of new kit I would love to install and see how it works :)

And it's a mere 31 degrees here in Javea with a gentle breeze :)

I would give my left man part to be able to live here :)

Who knows Motorhome-dude, maybe one day you’ll be able to return with your good lady? Most things are possible my friend, if you really want them to happen. A balmy 31 degrees - it sounds idyllic. Take it all in. Safe travels, kind sir.?

Do you know any figures... How many british vans are there around in the UK compared to foreign built vans?

Sounds like the Autotrail Comanche has the layout you require.
As you say yourself you will improve whatever you buy so this could prove a goodbase vehicle.

If you buy a Burstner and if it’s anything like mine, you will have nothing to fix so will have to concentrate on upgrades!
it is a superb van though, and for us, the best layout of all the vans we looked at.
The Face á Face layout seems to be quite popular and quite a few manufacturers are using this as an option, so your search shouldn’t be too hard.
If we see anything suitable on our travels, I’ll post details.
