I’m a newbie
My new motorhome has the habitation door on the other side. Are there any disadvantages for camping in the UK with this configuration i.e. getting water when arriving at campsite?

Just parking nose in instead of reversing up to the post really. Not had any issues err dumping my load so far. If it was the "wrong side" I just turned the van round and didn't even think about it.

Most but not all C&MC sites require you to pitch up with the nearside front close to the peg.

I've been to pretty much sole CaMC sites and east fleet (non CaMC) was the first one to ask me about door location and told me which way to park based on that.. ALL the other sites you are handed a pictorial showing MH reversed onto pitch with post on offside so you can see it in your drivers mirror. To be honest, if the view was good then the windscreen got that direction and to bollocks with the "official" direction ?

On C&MC sites, you can park either way round, i.e. NSF or OSR to the peg. The choice is yours, whether continental or UK handed 'van. I think C&CC sites are the same.

I have come across a few private sites who won't let you park 'door to door', but most are not bothered.

Only ever had Continental vans and never had a problem on C&CC or C&MC sites, or indeed commercial sites at home or in Europe.

I’ve been asked which side the habitation door is on but that was only so that you can be put in the “right” area where you won’t end up door to door (wouldn’t bother me if we did though..)

As you say, either way in immaterial of UK or Continental hab door format.
Burrs Country Park as an example (even a couple of units door to door) -

In relation to filling with water it really depends on what side your filling point is on and how long a hose (if using such) you have. Ours is on UK near-side (same as hab door).

We have never had an issue with ours - sometimes are asked to go nose in depending on what is parked next to us but not an issue. Actually works out well for us as we often go door to door with an Autotrail (sister) so we have a nice little shared space.

there is a site near Brean sands that has stopped taking bookings from vans with hab doors on the right side.

we have right handed hab door on the Adria. have had no issues until this summer at woodhill park near Cromer. insisted we park up facing out and on the peg, which meant stepping out int a bit of a bog.
they claimed it was to comply with their fire certificate...

Never had an issue, we tend to drive in, occasionally reversing but rarely.

I sort of get the "park near the peg" request, to maintain the spacing, whether its for fire or not.

But to insist on which way round as well to avoid no door-to-door is ludicrous. Its a campsite and I'm not interested in peering through anyones door - and I seriously doubt anyone else would want to peer into mine....so to speak

Makes no difference.
C&MC usually run through their corgi car & caravan on the green pitch on their counter to show you where the peg is but if you tell them that you’ve got a continental van with door on the other side, they just advise you to drive in instead on reversing in. They don’t have an issue with it as they’re only concerned about fire spacing.
My van has the hab door on the other side and the only annoyance is stepping out onto the road side when in this country. Just something to be mindful of but not worthy of putting you off buying one.

and the fact the van has windows on all sides, so if one wanted to peer one wouldn't be peering at the doorway anyway. :D

Some people do get the hump when the opening of hab doors clash. We think it’s good and helps to make friends and have lost count over the years of the times that we have shared our BBQ evenings with our next door neighbours on site.

Only ever had vans with the hab door on the UK offside, we park for the view don't care which way round others are parked. If we end up door to door so be it.

The thing I find most strange about the 6 metre guidance is that it actually specifies 6 M between habitable spaces for caravans (sorry but Motorhomes are deemed to be caravans for the purposes of the guide) in most cases where Awnings are used for sleeping purposes the sites that measure between caravans for the 6 metres (which is the vast majority) would be significantly in breach of guidance.

I was recently on a site which had pretty much exactly 6 Metres between each peg and found one pitch had a caravan which was towed by a camper and they stuck a awning on the side of the caravan for good measure and yes all three areas (camper, caravan and awning) were used for sleeping with 4 adults and 6 kids of various ages in total, that said they were a really pleasant family with kids that were much better behaved than the old couple in the pitch the other side of us who had a TV blaring at full volume till well after midnight (think one of them must have left their hearing aid at home) and had 2 dogs that they refused to put on leads and the couple must have had very bad eyesight as they never seemed to see when their dogs left little parcels all over the place luckily having seen my 2 little babies (see avatar) on their leads by my van their dogs never seemed in a hurry to come near our van.

We park largely dependant on the view or if I’m going to raise the solar panel on the roof we park to point it south.
Have even parked side ways in a few pitches that were big enough.
If the pitch is marked in a field type site we Just ask if it’s ok to pitch side ways.
As long as the your pitched in the middle of a marked pitch the separation between units should be ok.
Been on quite a few non C&MH and C&C Club sites were they don’t seem to care about the spacing.

How sites allow groups of people to pitch their tents so close together baffles me, especially when pitched in a circle with next to no room to to get away without tripping over guy ropes.

We stayed at a really nice field type site in Pencelli Wales last year, no defined pitches.
Parked sideways facing south for the solar panel,no hookup and about 6 to 8m away from the tap so we could top up without having to move.
We were there a few days when a young couple with a tiny 2 person tent put it no more than 3m from the front of our van.
As there was a large tent behind us the way we were parked if we wanted to leave we would have had to drive over their tent.
They didn’t seem bothered either about people using the tap right behind their tent.
Takes all sorts

Only came across one site (Lubeck in Germany) where they have been strict on making sure everyone was parked with their hab door away from others to give every pitch their own little 'private' space. Just meant I was the only van that needed to go in nose first.

No biggie.

Good for you. Not sure why you felt the need to post in this thread though?
Well while parking on sites ( not that I have ) I thought it was the done thing that you park up with Hab doors not facing each other ? So if you all got to park nose in , or reserve in ,doors will be facing each other if you have continentalp set up ? Thus invading privacy issues ?

It doesn’t make a jot of difference to us! We use C & MH sites and never had a problem.
